Brewing coastal storm may slam the Northeast with weekend...
FOX Weather · 2026-05-01 · via New York Post

Heavy rain will usher in an unseasonable cooldown across the Northeast and New England, ahead of a brewing coastal storm that could deliver another shot of soaking rain to the northeastern portions of the Interstate 95 corridor this weekend.

This comes after an initial shot of rain blasted the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast late Wednesday.

Another round of heavy rain spread across the region by Friday, with 1 to 2 inches possible through Friday night.

Localized pockets of 2 to 3 inches of rainfall will be possible, particularly across New Hampshire and Maine.

While no official flood outlooks have been issued, the FOX Forecast Center said there is a chance for some isolated flash flooding.

Behind Friday’s rain, a storm is expected to develop off the coast of North Carolina that could evolve into a nor’easter and bring more soaking rain to the northeastern parts of the Interstate 95 corridor this weekend.

This area of low pressure is expected to develop off the North Carolina coast on Friday and begin to move north.

Although the exact track of the system is not currently well-defined, a closer track to the Eastern Seaboard would increase rain and wind impacts across I-95.

Should this developing storm track move farther east, rain could miss the coast entirely.

Currently, some rain is forecast to arrive in the New York tri-state area and coastal New England late Saturday.

Rain forecast for the Northeast, showing up to 3-5 inches of rain through Friday in parts of Maine.

Major cities across the region are facing significant deficits, with Boston nearly 6 inches below its year-to-date average.

Both Portland and New York are 3 inches below average.
