Everyone needs a good laugh in life, and Adults is a sitcom that can deliver a good, out loud, laugh. The FX on Hulu comedy sucks you in, and gets you invested in multiple characters’ lives. 

The series follows a group of close friends who all live together: Samir (Malik Elassal), Issa (Amita Rao), Anton (Owen Thiele), Billie (Lucy Freyer), and Paul Baker (Jack Innanen). The friends experience life’s many complications together, no matter how extreme. Throughout the course of Season 1, various hijinks ensue such as accidentally befriending a stabber, starting a romantic endeavor with your old high school teacher, and even having to marry one of your friends so you aren’t deported to Canada. Phew!

Adults has gotten numerous New Girl comparisons, so it is no wonder the show is on the list.The series follows elementary school teacher Jess (Zooey Deschanel) after finding out her long-term boyfriend is cheating on her. She moves out of their shared home, and in with three men whose listing she found on Craigslist. Throughout the show, the found family aspect that keeps viewers watching. From the slow burn between Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess to the comedic duo of Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Cece (Hannah Simone), New Girl is the perfect follow up after watching Adults.

'Happy Endings'

Like Adults, Happy Endings is also about a tight-knit friend group facing the challenges of adulthood. The early 2010s comedy is one of those underrated sitcoms that you have no choice but to binge. Starring icons like Elisha Cuthbert and Damon Wayans Jr., the show is highly energetic and known for its absurd comedy and pop culture references. The series picks up after the beautiful Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) leaves the goofy Dave (Zachary Knighton) at the alter. As their mutual friends struggle to maintain a relationship with both of them, the two realize that just because they aren’t together does not mean their friend group has to be fractured as well.

'I Love LA'

Premiering in the same year as Adults, I Love LA has already cemented its legacy as one of the most quintessential Gen-Z comedies. Created, written by, and starring Rachel Sennott, the HBO comedy series has been praised for being an accurate portrayal of insufferable LA residents while being acutely self aware. The cast is also stacked with actors like Josh Hutcherson, Odessa A’zion, True Whitaker, and Leighton Meester.

'Community'

Having a good approach to the found family trope is what makes an ensemble comedy great. Community is a great example of how this trope can carry a series, and makes you invested in the characters and their relationships. When hot shot lawyer Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) is forced to go to community college to get a real degree, he first starts a study group to his classmate Brita’s (Gillian Jacobs) number. Soon, Jeff is stuck with a group of people he would never approach outside of the walls of Greendale Community College. The show has slow burn romances, long-lasting friendships, and wacky side characters; everything needed for a good sitcom.

Not Suitable for Work, is the newest Gen- ensemble comedy to hit streaming platforms. Created by Mindy Kaling, the show follows five work obsessed 20-somethings as they navigate being an adult in New York City. The series stars Ella Hunt, Avantika Vandanapu, Will Angus, Jay Ellis, Nicholas Duvernay, and Jack Martin. It’s is clear Not Suitable for Work is setting itself up for a memorable run.
