Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have a close connection to Bravo other than their years-long friendship with Andy Cohen. Their eldest son, Michael Consuelos, works as a producer on Summer House, which is currently in the midst of an earth-shattering scandal. When DECIDER caught up with Summer House star Lindsay Hubbard earlier this week, she shed more light on Michael’s daily duties for the network.

“We didn’t see him often,” Hubbard confessed. “They kind of put him in Video Village and didn’t let him out of the basement. Poor guy.”

Hubbard, who recently appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark‘s Mother’s Day special, said she was discussing Michael’s work on Summer House with his parents.

“I just talked to Kelly and Mark about this, too. We were cracking up,” Hubbard recalled. “She was like, ‘They won’t let him come out of the basement.’ And I was like, ‘Well, you gotta work your way up, Kelly. Literally, physically work your way up.'”

Just last month, the married co-hosts opened their show with a chat about the ongoing Summer House drama, which started when Amanda Batula confirmed that she and West Wilson, the ex-situationship of her best friend Ciara Miller, had started dating. While Kelly described the situation as “bad girl code,” she also said she “cannot comment on this” scandal without knowing all of the details.

“You would think our son would prepare us for this,” she joked, referring to Michael’s gig on the show. “He tells us nothing.”

Michael, who graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2020, did some light acting before stepping into his current producer role. He famously played a younger version of his father’s character in Riverdale, before starring alongside Jenna Dewan in the 2022 Lifetime movie, Let’s Get Physical, which was executive produced by his parents.

Kelly had previously opened up about Michael’s difficulty finding a job after he graduated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Adulting is hard nowadays. It’s very hard for kids. Job opportunities aren’t what they were. The economy is driving this trend,” she said in a November 2022 episode of Live, per People. “I know that Michael graduated college in May of 2020, and he had a writing job lined up, which evaporated because the pandemic shut down the production and it just never came back. So, you know, we gave him a grace period of an additional year to find other job opportunities because it’s hard.”

Fortunately, Michael seems to have found his footing at Bravo. Aside from Summer House, he has also produced on shows like The Real Housewives of New Jersey, The Real Housewives of New York City, and Winter House.

Real Housewives executive producer Andy Cohen once told Mark during a 2023 episode of Live that it’s a “full-circle moment” having Michael working in the Bravoverse after knowing him since his childhood. “The first words he said were, ‘Can I hug your Snoopy?’ I mean, this is a kid we love,” Cohen gushed.
