One of the coolest elements of watching the World Cup is seeing how the world’s top soccer stars celebrate scoring goals on the biggest stage.

It’s even cooler when one of these celebrations pays homage to another element of pop culture, especially when it involved something American sports fans are familiar with.

And no basketball celebration has become more iconic than Warriors legend Steph Curry’s “Night Night” celebration, which he first hit during Game 3 against the Nuggets in a first-round NBA playoff series in April 2022. He also did it after a dagger 3-pointer against France during the gold medal game of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The celebration has caught fire since then and remains relevant in the sports world. And this became clear when Netherlands forward Crysencio Summerville dropped Curry’s celebration after scoring a goal in his squad’s June 20 victory over Sweden.

To be fair, there’s a strong case to be made that the Netherlands had already put this game to bed, as they were winning 4-1 before Summerville’s goal and there was just one minute of regulation time remaining.

Still, nobody will be upset to see Summerville bringing Curry’s iconic celebration back to the spotlight and proving that it has global reach.

Curry still drops the celebration from time to time but only saves it for major moments in his own basketball career. And this was undoubtedly the biggest moment of Summerville’s career to this point, which is probably why Curry would approve of him doing it.

Perhaps Curry will show Summerville some love in the wake of this celebration, given that it’s going viral and will likely catch Curry’s attention.
