Matt Damon wasted no time putting his hosting gig to work on Saturday Night Live.

Before stepping out for his monologue, the Good Will Hunting star appeared in the episode’s cold open, reviving his fan-favorite impression of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Seated at a bar with Colin Jost’s Pete Hegseth, the two Trump allies congratulated themselves on what they viewed as a particularly successful run.

“Can you believe I just like started a war?” Jost’s Hegseth asked.

“Can you believe I ended abortion? Your body, my choice,” Damon’s Kavanaugh shot back.

As the pair traded boasts about the escalating conflict with Iran, Damon’s Kavanaugh suggested that another battle was demanding even more attention.

“The real war right now is the war against male loneliness,” he said. “I just wish there were more people in this administration who could really hang.”

That line opened the door for a surprise cameo from Aziz Ansari, who returned as FBI Director Kash Patel after making an appearance during last week’s episode.

“Does this bar take cash?” Ansari asked as he joined the group. “So, what’s up? Are we wilding out tonight, or what?”

Patel was clearly enjoying his place in the inner circle.

“Seriously, we’re all living the American dream,” he said. “I’m the first person in my family to go to college parties many years after graduating.”

But Damon’s biggest laugh came when his faux Kavanaugh decided to share a classified update.

“Hey, since we’re opening up, can I tell you guys something top secret?” he asked. “We’re gonna let Trump do a third term.”

“I thought that was unconstitutional,” Jost’s Hegseth replied.

“Yeah, it was,” Damon said. “But Trump found the original Constitution and at the end he wrote, ‘Sike!’”

Saturday’s episode officially made Damon a member of SNL’s three-timers club. It also marked his first hosting appearance in more than seven years, following previous stints in 2002 and 2018.

The Oscar winner is preparing to star in Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey, which arrives in theaters on July 17. During his opening monologue, Damon joked about just how far away the release still is.

“I’m really excited because I have a new movie coming out. It’s called The Odyssey,” he said. “And it’s in theaters not this weekend, not next weekend, but nine weekends from now. Mid-July, baby.”

Because the show aired the night before Mother’s Day, Damon also addressed the annual tradition of flying in the cast’s mothers for the episode.

“I know normally SNL flies all the cast moms in for the show, first class, no expense spared,” he said. “Apparently that was gonna happen again this year, but then Spirit Airlines shut down. So for all of you waiting to see the cast moms, I’m sorry, it ain’t happening tonight.”

He then offered a last-minute gift idea for anyone who may have forgotten to shop.

“Hey there, it’s me, Matt Damon. I bet you thought your kid forgot to get you a Mother’s Day gift. No, this is your gift, a personal message from me,” Damon said. “But wait, I’m confused. Your kid asked me to make a video for their mom… But you’re their sister, right?”

Season 51 of Saturday Night Live is nearly over. Damon served as the second-to-last host alongside musical guest Noah Kahan, while Will Ferrell is set to host next week’s finale with Paul McCartney. Just one week earlier, Olivia Rodrigo handled double duty as both host and musical guest.
