Bryan Armetta shares his three favorite player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday’s three-game NBA playoffs slate.
Another jam-packed postseason NBA slate is on tap this evening for hoops fans. To get things started, the Knicks are hoping to wrap up their series with the Hawks in Atlanta. Ditto for the Celtics, going up against Joel Embiid’s 76ers in Philadelphia. As a nightcap, it’ll be the Timberwolves hosting the rival Nuggets in Minneapolis.
Who should bettors target ahead of tonight’s high-stakes matchups? Here are my three favorite NBA prop bet picks on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday’s playoff contests.
Mitchell Robinson does plenty of things on the basketball court. A scorer, he is not. The offensively limited big man derives most of his buckets from tip-ins and alley-oops. Granted, he does plenty in terms of defense and rebounding. Through 60 games during the regular season, he averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks while shooting 72% from the field. Still, on a roster with All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns, consistent playing time can be difficult for New York’s backup center. Robinson has logged less than 20 minutes in all five games of this series so far.
With that being said, Mitch is a difference maker whenever he does take the floor. That’s especially true against an undersized opponent such as Atlanta. Robinson tallied six and seven points respectively during Games 4 and 5. In fact, the seven-footer has reached the five-point threshold in six of his last eight meetings with the Hawks. Despite his poor free-throw shooting (41%), Robinson is also a good bet to get intentionally fouled and sent to the charity stripe. Even if he only goes 50% from the line tonight, that’s half of this total already. New York’s underrated big man is more than capable of cashing in tonight.
The Celtics are in a bit of a predicament, needing a road win in order to avoid a dreaded Game 7. Fortunately, Boston has championship pedigree; there’s no situation that this group hasn’t seen before. That’s especially true for Jaylen Brown, enjoying his tenth season in Beantown. The two-way wing has been terrific all season, taking on an increased role offensively for most of the year. This postseason, even with Jayson Tatum back, JB has continued to produce. Through five games against Philadelphia, he’s averaging 25.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 46.5% from the field.
Brown has been lethal from three-point range, shooting at a 44% clip from long distance. As a team, the Celtics are making a whopping 18.3 three-pointers on 39.6% shooting over their last three games. With so many weapons on the outside, and Tatum drawing defensive attention, Brown should enjoy some wide-open looks tonight. He reached this total in 42 of his 71 appearances (59%) during the regular season. In fact, the 29-year-old has notched at least two treys in seven of his last ten meetings with the 76ers.
Anthony Edwards (knee) remains sidelined for the rest of the first round, at minimum. That places even more pressure on Julius Randle to lead these short-handed Timberwolves. Granted, we’ve seen the three-time All-Star carry an otherwise middling roster on several occasions. During the regular season, the power forward served as an ideal number two alongside Ant-Man. Through 79 games, he recorded 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists to go with 48/32/80 shooting splits. In Game 5, with Edwards out, Randle delivered 27 points, nine rebounds and six assists vs. Denver.
Without fear of another co-star, the Nuggets should make a significant effort to double-team Randle tonight. Still, this all-around threat can impact a game without scoring 20+ points. After all, the 12th-year pro has had notable success on the glass in this matchup. In four of his previous six contests against Denver, playoffs included, Randle has snagged at least eight boards. This postseason, the Nuggets are 14th out of 16 teams in total rebounding percentage (46.9%). In this crucial Game 6, expect Minnesota’s best (healthy) player to make his presence felt.
