This is essentially the “Battle of the Bridge” 2.0. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to 2016, where Chelsea hosted Tottenham who were fighting for the league title at the end of the season. Eden Hazard scored a famous goal in a game that finished in a 2-2 draw, and ultimately cost Tottenham the trophy and gave it to Leicester City.
This game has similar implications, but for relegation. A Chelsea win would mean that the relegation battle goes down to the final day. A Tottenham win guarantees survival. Chelsea have dominated this fixture recently, winning each of the last five fixtures between the teams. In terms of games at Stamford Bridge, they’ve won four of the last five and drawn one.
It might not be enough to send them down, but expect the Blues to show up and do their best to put their rivals in an uncomfortable situation heading into the final day.
