At first glance, I really wanted to give Nikita Kucherov the nod in the Lightning/Canadiens matchup given that the superstar has 10 shots on goal in this series and found the net for the first time in Game 2. However, the +160 value doesn’t really stand out since his odds of an anytime goal are the shortest of any Tampa Bay skater. Now, I’m not saying not to take him — he’s a great bet to light the lamp on any given night. We’re looking a little bit lower down the odds, though.
Instead, we’re targeting defenseman Darren Raddysh. At the not-so-young age of 30, the veteran broke out with the best regular season of his career this year. Raddysh nearly doubled his previous-high point total with 70 on the campaign, and he scored over three times as many goals as in the past with 22. His old career best? That mark was just six goals. He finished the regular season with 212 shots, good for almost three per game, ranking fourth on the Lightning roster in that stat. In two playoff games, his 10 shots on goal are tied for the team lead. Raddysh should put some more pucks on net as a slap-shot specialist from the back line, and given a shooting percentage of 10.4% this year, one should slip through before long. The +425 odds are a huge bonus here.
Look, I get that +100 odds on an anytime goalscorer market aren’t great. There’s only a small handful of players who are still worth taking at even odds or similar value though. Connor McDavid is one of them.
Somehow, some way, the superstar doesn’t have a single point yet in this series. That’s even despite logging 24:28 TOI on average between his first two games against Anaheim. McDavid has also recorded seven shots on goal to no avail. If you know anything about hockey, I probably don’t have to explain how transcendent of a talent he is. He won’t be held scoreless for long, especially coming off an Art Ross Trophy win and making a legitimate play at the Rocket Richard Trophy as well, notching 48 goals in the regular season with nearly four shots per game as well. With a shooting percentage of 15.7% and elite breakaway ability, it’s just a matter of time before a McDavid anytime goalscorer prop cashes. It’s not like the goalie play in front of him has been great either, so trust the process and bank on some positive regression here.
