Alex Hunter details some of his favorite long shot outright winner bets for the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club.
We head to Quail Hollow Club (par 71, 7,583 yards, Bermuda/POA trivialis greens) in Charlotte, North Carolina for the Truist Championship. Quail Hollow has hosted a PGA TOUR event almost every year since 2003. Last year, this par 71 hosted the PGA Championship, which was won by Scottie Scheffler (-11). As a Signature Event, the Truist Championship features a 72-man field competing for a $20 million purse and there will be no cut.
Below, I have featured two of my favorite outright long shot bets to win the Truist Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Conners has played well at Quail Hollow in the past. In his last three visits to the par 71, Conners has finished T8th, T13th and T19th. This season, the Canadian has only missed one cut in 10 starts and has carded four top-30 finishes. Conners has yet to contend, but he appeared to turn a corner last week at the Cadillac Championship. Conners finished T30th and he closed the event with a 5-under 67 at the Blue Monster.
Conners ranked seventh in SG APP in the final round and he was positive in both SG APP and SGP for the week. Four of the last five winners at Quail Hollow have finished the tournament top-10 in both these categories, so Conners is in a strong position to succeed this week. The two-time PGA TOUR event winner is worth backing at these long +9200 odds.
This is a ridiculous price for the ascending Alex Fitzpatrick. After winning the Hero Indian Open by two strokes on the DP World Tour in late March, Alex and his brother Matt won the team-based Zurich Classic two weeks ago. This was a massive win for Alex, as it earned him a two-year exemption on the PGA TOUR.
Then, in his first start as a PGA TOUR member, Alex went on to finish T9th at the Cadillac Championship last week, which like the Truist Championship, is a Signature Event that features a world-class field competing for a $20 million purse.
At the Blue Monster, Alex gained strokes in every major category except with his putter. He also carded a 5-under 67 in the final round. Seeing the 27-year-old flourish against the best players on the PGA TOUR was very encouraging and is likely a sign of more things to come. The Englishman has never competed at Quail Hollow before, but Alex Fitzpatrick is a well-rounded player who has the tools to thrive at this track and these odds are just way too long for his form. On some other sportsbooks, Fitzpatrick is as short as +9000 to win the Truist Championship.
