ZT breaks down his top player props to consider for Sunday Night Baseball’s matchup between the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers.
Sunday Night Baseball wraps up another full Sunday of action with a nice American League matchup between the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in the Motor City. The two teams split the first two games of the series, and they’ll meet in the rubber game of the set on Peacock at 7:20 p.m. ET. The Tigers are slight favorites at -126 with the over/under at eight runs. It’s an interesting pitching matchup and should be a fun matchup to close out the weekend, so let’s dive in and find a few player prop bets to target in this matchup.
For each Major League Baseball matchup, DraftKings Sportsbook has a wide variety of batter and pitcher props on the board. Let’s take a look at my top three best bets from the player prop market in this Sunday Night Baseball matchup.
Jung has been scorching hot for the Rangers, hitting .414 over his last 15 games and delivering at least two hits in eight of those 15 contests. He has a 53.8% hard-hit rate and 9.6% barrel rate and has multiple hard-hit batted ball events in four of his last six contests.
While he is a right-handed hitter, Jung is hitting .369 on the season against righties and only .192 against lefties. The Tigers are planning a bullpen game with lefty starter Tyler Holton, but Jung will likely only face him one time, depending on how the game goes. I’m not that concerned about that matchup, and I’m willing to take Jung on just his overall excellent form to deliver multiple hits in this game.
Jung went 2-for-4 with a double on Saturday and 2-for-5 with two RBIs on Friday. The Tigers don’t seem to be able to get him out, and the 28-year-old righty should be right in the middle of the order as they look to get the series win on Sunday night.
Top prospect Kevin McGonigle has been an exciting part of the Tigers’ offense this season, and the 21-year-old lefty is hitting .310 with 23 runs, 14 RBIs and a .393 wOBA on the season.
Over his last 13 games, he has 32 HRR (hits, runs and RBI), averaging 2.5 HRR per game. He went 1-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI for three HRR on Saturday and has gone over this prop in seven of those 13 games.
McGonigle is hitting .337 with a .428 wOBA and 171 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers like Jack Leiter. Leiter is holding righties to a .236 average, but lefties like McGonigle are hitting .304 with a .400 wOBA. With all of the splits tilted in his favor, this is a great spot for some more value on Sunday Night Baseball.
The run total for this game is lower due to the wind blowing in from right field, but the Rangers’ righty has been inconsistent enough to think the Tigers should be able to get to him again on Sunday even if the wind takes long balls out of play.
Leiter has allowed at least three runs in each of his last four starts, with 15 earned runs allowed in just 20 1/3 innings. He has handed out 10 free passes to go with 25 hits in that timeframe, including five homers with a 10.2% barrel rate against him.
On the road, he has allowed 10 earned runs in 15 1/3 innings this season, serving up three homers and allowing lefties to hit .333 with a .444 wOBA when facing them on the road.
Leiter has lots of potential and a high ceiling, but he has struggled in his last few outings, and these odds are favorable enough to make it one of the best bets on the board this Sunday night.
