Slafkovsky has failed to even record a point since his Game 1 hat-trick, but he found success in Tampa Bay during the regular season, so a bounce-back game feels likely. The 22-year-old has logged the second-most minutes on the Habs, behind only Nick Suzuki, and ranks second among all skaters this postseason in xGoals per 60. Slafkovsky registered seven shots on goal in Game 1 and just a combined five shots on goal in the following three games, but he has still averaged 5.5 shot attempts per game. All three of his goals from Game 1 came on the power play, and this series has seen a combined 39 power play opportunities.
Crosby has scored just once this series, but the big dogs tend to come to play when it is do-or-die. The 38-year-old has been consistent in the shot department, registering 3+ shots on goal in all but one game, and he has found plenty of success playing in Philadelphia across his 21 seasons in the NHL. Crosby scored in Game 4 in Philadelphia, and he has netted at least one goal in five of his past eight road outings against the Flyers. Across 28 career playoff games against the Flyers, Crosby has scored 16 goals. Given the win-or-go-home situation, I’d expect the captain to step up for his team and get things going early with a goal.
Only one skater this postseason has attempted more shots than Guenther, and his name is Matt Boldy, who has played one more game. Guenther scored in Games 2 and 3 and has averaged 11 shot attempts per game this series. Carter Hart has been one of the worst goaltenders so far this postseason, sporting a poor 3.08 GAA and .886 SV%, and given Guenther’s recent volume, it’d be foolish to fade him in this spot. This postseason, he ranks fourth in xGoals per 60, fourth in shots per 60 and second in shot attempts per 60. Utah will be eager to erase its overtime loss in Game 5 and should come out swinging, with Guenther leading the way.
