Zach Thompson dives into Saturday night’s eight-game MLB slate to find three value options for your DraftKings lineups.
After a great start to Rivalry Weekend on Friday that included triple-plays, near no-hitters and plenty of power displays, Saturday is back with all 30 teams on the scoreboard. With some nice afternoon action, the main DFS fantasy baseball slate this Saturday includes the eight games starting at 7:10 p.m. ET or later. The Crosstown Classic and the Subway Series are just two of the eight rivalry games to consider as you build your roster, and finding some strong MLB DFS Value Picks can help stretch your salary cap to include the stars you want to build around. In this post, we’ll examine my top three MLB DFS Value Picks, who bring good upside at low salaries.
The weather is uncertain in some of the earlier spots, but the evening looks mostly clear. There could be some showers that pop in Chicago and cause a delay, but no games seem to be likely to be postponed. The weather will be helping the hitters in some spots, most notably at Citi Field, where the winds will be blowing out at 10-15 mph.
Let’s dive in and take a look at a few of the best value plays from the 16 teams in the player pool this Saturday night.

The weather in Chicago will be key to watch this Saturday, especially if you’re planning to use Martin as one of your MLB DFS value picks. If he gets an uninterrupted start, he is the best value option from the probable pitchers on Saturday night. The 29-year-old righty is 5-1 in his eight starts this season with a 1.62 ERA and 2.32 FIP. He has 52 strikeouts in 50 innings and has only allowed two runs in 17 2/3 innings at Rate Field.
Martin has pitched at least 5 2/3 innings in seven straight starts, earning at least 22 FPTS in six of those seven outings. He has been especially good in his last two starts, producing 36.8 FPTS against the Angels in a win and 25.9 FPTS against the Mariners in a no-decision.
His matchup isn’t ideal against the Cubs, but the wind blowing in should help, and his recent form gives him a great chance to return value if he puts up 20+ FPTS again in this outing.
Benge went 0-for-4 in his first game in the Subway Series, but he was on a roll before that and should be in a solid bounce-back spot as a bargain on Saturday night. Benge has hit leadoff in each of his last four games and has been very productive and will be a good spot if he’s back atop the lineup against Carlos Rodon ($7,600) in a hitter-friendly spot. Rodon gave up three runs in just 4 1/3 innings in his first start of the season last Sunday, and he’s still ramping up after his offseason elbow surgery.
Benge has averaged 9.4 FPTS over his last 11 games with double-digit FPTS in six of those games, including three straight before coming up empty on Friday. He had a stolen base on Wednesday and Thursday from the leadoff spot, and he’s also shown some power with three homers this year and a 45.5% hard-hit rate over his last 11 games. He has multiple paths to success as a value play and hitting leadoff will be a huge boost to both his ceiling and floor as well. If you think the Mets will stack up runs against Rodon, Benge is a great spot to start your stack and can also be a good independent value play.
Sheets has come up with some huge hits for the Padres this season, including his go-ahead, three-run homer off Brewers closer Abner Uribe on Wednesday. He started on Friday against a righty and went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and 15 FPTS in the series opener in Seattle. Sheets has at least 5 FPTS in four straight games and is averaging 8.8 FPTS over his last nine contests.
Sheets has power potential and has already set a career-high with three stolen bases while hitting .240 with a .223 ISO, .337 wOBA and 43.6% hard-hit rate. The big lefty should be in the middle of the lineup for San Diego again on Saturday against the Mariners’ Logan Gilbert ($8,500). Gilbert has given up eight homers this season (five by left-handed hitters) and has a 4.91 home ERA and 4.80 home FIP. While it’s still not an ideal matchup, Sheets has shown enough upside to be a great option for MLB DFS value picks if you are looking for a 1B bargain or an outfield play with power upside.
