Bryan Armetta offers up a preview, prediction and pick for Tuesday’s MLB game between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees.
A back and forth affair on Monday ended in a 7-6 victory for the Yankees (29-19). New York, despite a stellar record, needs every win it can get to keep pace with the red-hot Rays. As for the Blue Jays (21-26), it’s been a sluggish start for the defending American League champs. However, newly acquired ace Dylan Cease could give Toronto a boost on Tuesday. Which of these two rivals has the edge this evening in the Bronx?
The Yankees are favorites (-137) over the Blue Jays, with the over/under set at 8.5 runs. Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Tuesday’s showdown between Toronto and New York on DraftKings Sportsbook.
As previously mentioned, Cease will take the hill this evening at Yankee Stadium. After signing a massive seven-year, $210-million deal this winter, the right-hander came into 2026 with massive expectations. So far, it’s safe to say he’s lived up to the hype. Through 52.1 innings of work, the veteran has recorded a 2.41 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and an AL-best 75 strikeouts (12.9 K/9). Cease has allowed more than two earned runs in just two of his nine appearances this season. That includes stellar performances against quality lineups such as the Athletics, Brewers, Dodgers and Rays.
With that being said, a road visit to New York presents several potential challenges. No duo of hitters have been better this season than Aaron Judge (171 wRC+) and Ben Rice (190 wRC+). Together, the two sluggers have combined for 31 homers and 61 RBIs. Fellow middle of the order bat Cody Bellinger (141 wRC+) has been solid as well. With that being said, the rest of this lineup is somewhat lacking. Just two other healthy Yankees regulars (Paul Goldschmidt and Amed Rosario) have an OPS above .700. The Pinstripes work the second-most walks per game in baseball (4.58). However, they also strike out 8.83 times per game, eighth-most in the league. If Cease has his command, there should be plenty of whiffs tonight.
Toronto isn’t the only team with a standout starter on the mound. Will Warren has gone from afterthought to rotation mainstay this season. After a solid 2025 campaign, the third-year pro has taken his game to another level. Over 47.1 innings pitched, he’s posted a 3.42 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 59 strikeouts. Despite a few recent hiccups, the right-hander’s success is no fluke. He’s responsible for a 3.19 xERA and 29.8 K%; the latter mark places him within baseball’s top 90th percentile. Warren, much like Cease, has been consistent as well. He’s surrendered more than two earned runs just once over nine starts.
A deep, contact-heavy lineup carried the Jays en route to a pennant. However, this group has looked like a shell of its old self in 2026. Toronto is only averaging 4.13 runs per game, eighth-worst in the league. On the road, that mark drops down to just 3.70, second-worst in the American League. The team wields a collection of solid hitters, but none have truly stood out so far. No lineup regular has accounted for a wRC+ above 114 so far. In comparison, the Yankees wield four such hitters. The Blue Jays have a .305 xwOBA, second-lowest in the majors.
If there’s any hope for Toronto, this group has hit Warren hard in the past. Postseason included, they’ve torched the 26-year-old en route to 14 earned runs in just 8.2 innings (14.54 ERA). In addition, the Blue Jays are striking out at an MLB-low 6.89 times per game. That knack for putting bat to ball could lead to success against a hurler that relies on punch outs.
74% of all bettors are backing the Yankees on the moneyline in this one. Granted, it’s difficult to put much faith in this up-and-down Jays squad. Still, the visitors have the better pitcher toeing the slab on Tuesday. That alone is enough to give Toronto a serious look at plus money. Besides, it’s not as if New York has been lighting it up over the past few weeks either. A strikeout pitcher such as Cease should take advantage of this free-swinging lineup. Keeping that in mind, there’s more value with the dogs in this AL East showdown.
