Dan Johnson gets you set for the eighth episode of Steve Carrell’s new HBO show, Rooster.
It’s getting late in the semester at Ludlow, and the show’s started cashing in the mess it planted early. Greg took the writer-in-residence gig, got humbled by his first real day teaching, and kept trying to play both lanes at once—campus adult and actual dad—while Katie tried to outlive the Archie fallout in a place that never forgets anything. Episode 7 pushed that tension into consequence mode, with Greg trying to steady the room after an embarrassing blowup while the Archie–Sunny situation kept inching toward something more real and more permanent.
Rooster Episode 8 premieres Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, and it will be available to stream at the same time on Max.
Episode 8 is titled Nobody Spook It, and it reads like a back-half pivot toward the show’s real heartbeat—repair work. Greg tries to support an increasingly emotional Katie, Dylan puts her energy into steering a promising student toward poetry, and Sunny lights up when Archie starts engaging more with the pregnancy.
It premieres on HBO on Sunday, April 26, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, and it will stream the same night on HBO Max.
Season 1 has 10 episodes. HBO says new episodes will roll out weekly on Sundays through May 10.
