Bryan Armetta shares his two favorite MLB no run first inning (NRFI) prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Saturday’s slate.
All 30 teams make up Saturday’s 15-game MLB slate. For those looking to cash in quickly on a bet, nothing makes more sense than an NRFI. With that being said, there’s more to this one than meets the eye. Some pitchers thrive early, while others take more time to get settled in than others. Which NRFI picks are worth a closer look today?
Ahead of Saturday’s Major League Baseball contests, here are two NRFI bets worth placing on DraftKings Sportsbook.
| Pirates vs. Reds NRFI (-140) | Jones vs. Burns |
| Braves vs. Giants NRFI (-135) | Elder vs. Webb |
Despite plenty of hype, Jared Jones has looked off on the mound this season. Pittsburgh’s standout hurler has been handing out walks and base hits since his return in late May. Over five starts (20.1 IP), he’s notched a 5.75 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 21 strikeouts (9.3 K/9). With that being said, the 24-year-old remains an intimidating presence thanks to his plus-plus stuff. He also tends to come out firing; Jones comes into Saturday on a four-game NRFI streak. He’ll be opposed by the Reds, a lineup that has looked lost offensively. Their .663 OPS in the month of June is the fourth-worst in baseball during that time. In addition, Cincinnati’s 25.0% YRFI rate is the league’s seventh-lowest mark.
On the other side, it’ll be Chase Burns toeing the slab. To call this a breakout season would be putting it mildly. The right-hander is a legitimate Cy Young contender at the moment. Through 85.2 innings of work 15 starts), he’s accounted for a 2.00 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 102 strikeouts (10.7 K/9). Throughout his brief MLB career, Burns has put up a spectacular 87% NRFI rate as well. Pitching on the road against a surprisingly good Pirates offense won’t be easy this afternoon. However, he has yet to allow a single run over 12.0 innings against Pittsburgh this season. That bodes well for his NRFi chances on Saturday.
As a nightcap, Braves fans will be treated to a Bryce Elder appearance this evening. Through 16 starts (94.2 IP), the 27-year-old has recorded a 3.71 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 79 strikeouts (7.5 K/9). He does come into this one on a down note, having surrendered 14 earned runs over his previous two outings. Regardless, we’re only asking Elder to toss a clean first inning; he’s got a solid 75.0% NRFI rate this season. To boot, he’ll be facing one of baseball’s most feeble lineups. The Giants are averaging just 3.71 runs per game at home, fourth-fewest in the majors. San Francisco’s 23.46% YRFI rate is the sixth-lowest in baseball as well.
The home team will counter tonight with staff ace Logan Webb. Despite playing for a mediocre club, the right-hander is putting together yet another decent campaign. Through 83.1 innings (13 starts), he’s got a 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 70 strikeouts (7.6 K/9). Webb has been on a heater, putting up a 1.02 ERA over his last five starts. The opposite is true for a once-dominant Atlanta lineup. The Braves have an MLB-worst .625 OPS during the month of June. At spacious T-Mobile Park, against an All-Star hurler, this doesn’t feel like an ideal spot for a bounce back.
