How Much Money Did Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu M...
Sam Connon · 2026-05-24 · via DraftKings Network

Nearly seven years after Star Wars Episode IX brought the Skywalker Saga to an end, The Mandalorian and Grogu has arrived in theaters. So how much money did the long-delayed sequel make at the box office over Memorial Day weekend?

Coming off three seasons of a smash-hit TV series, The Mandalorian, Din Djarin’s story has spilled over to the big screen. Lucasfilm and Jon Favreau delivered Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu on May 22, giving fans the franchise’s first theatrically-released film since Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker broke $1 billion at the box office in 2019. With Michael, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Mortal Kombat II all several weeks into their respective runs, were Disney and Lucasfilm able to take advantage of the extended runway?

Here is a breakdown of how Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu performed at the box office this past weekend:

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu Box Office

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu made $81.7 million at the box office between May 22 and May 24. Over the four-day holiday weekend, it wound up making $98.1 million. That pales in comparison to Disney’s Memorial Day tentpole in 2025, the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, which had made $182.6 million in North America alone through its opening Monday. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu now owns the 12th-largest Memorial Day opening weekend of all time, per Box Office Mojo. That slots it right above The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

This also marks the lowest three-day opening weekend for a live-action Star Wars film since Attack of the Clones opened to $80.0 million in 2002. Even Solo: A Star Wars Story made $84.4 million over the three-day and $103.0 million over the four-day when it opened on Memorial Day weekend back in 2018. The four other Star Wars movies that have come out since Disney acquired the franchise in 2012 (Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Episode VIII – The Last Jedi and Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker) opened to $248.0 million, $155.1 million, $220.0 million and $177.4 million domestically, respectively. Those four movies all opened in mid-December.

According to Deadline and Variety, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu made $12.0 million in Thursday night previews on May 21. That cash is counted as part of the film’s $33.0 million Friday gross. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu now owns the No. 3 domestic opening weekend of 2026 so far, trailing only The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael.

Looking beyond the United States and Canada, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu has reeled in an additional $63.0 million overseas. In total, the film grossed $144.0 million worldwide over its traditional three-day opening weekend. That falls just short of Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s $147.5 million global opening and way behind Rogue One at $290.5 million, The Rise of Skywalker at $376.2 million, The Last Jedi at $450.8 million and The Force Awakens at $529.0 million. Rogue One, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker all went on to gross over $1 billion, while The Force Awakens cracked $2 billion. Solo: A Star Wars Story, on the other hand, plateaued at $392.9 million.

It is worth noting that Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu has a reported net budget of about $166 million, whereas Solo: A Star Wars Story cost $275 million – the same price tag as The Rise of Skywalker. Going by the modern rule of thumb for breaking even theatrically – based on marketing costs, the share of grosses that go back to the theaters themselves, certain international splits and more – Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu could be profitable for Disney if it reaches $415 million globally.
