Charlie Cummings shares his top DraftKings MLB DFS stud plays, values, and targets for Sunday’s slate on 5/17/26.
Welcome to my weekly Sunday DraftKings MLB DFS plays. I’ll break down some of the prime picks on the board, including studs and value plays, and break down why these players can lead your lineup to victory.

SP Gavin Williams (CLE), $8,600: The Guards have done it again. Their pitching development is unrivaled, and Gavin Williams is another strong arm to come from the farm system. In the midst of a strong start to the season, Williams gets a matchup with a Reds lineup that has put up inconsistent performances. He’s much better than his sixth-highest price on the DFS board indicates.
SP Grant Holmes (ATL), $7,000: Sometimes, it’s more about the opposing offense than the pitcher. Grant Holmes has produced mixed results for the Braves this year, but on Sunday, he gets to face arguably the worst offense in baseball: the Boston Red Sox. Holmes has a strong strikeout floor and great potential for a win here. If you’re looking to fill the rotation cheaply, he’s a great value.
SP Elmer Rodriguez (NYY), $6,000: Again, it’s the offense, not the pitcher. Elmer Rodriguez, one of the Yankees’ top prospects, will get an extended look in the rotation given New York’s injuries. He brings a massive fastball to the table, and though he has been shaky through two starts, he gets a great matchup here. This Mets lineup is the worst high-priced disaster since The Green Lantern; even a greenhorn rookie can do damage against them. For the third-lowest price on the board, Elmer is the perfect cheap SP2.
C Drake Baldwin (ATL), $5,300: No need to mess around here. Baldwin has been the sweetest-swinging catcher in baseball this year, crushing his fourth home run in six games on Saturday night. He’s matchup-proof and has upside you can’t ignore; this is one Drake that won’t disappoint you.
3B Miguel Vargas (CWS), $4,600: This whole White Sox infield is on a roll. Vargas — the least heralded between himself, Munetaka Murakami, and Colson Montgomery — cranked a homer for his second straight game on Saturday, and is on pace for 30-plus dingers. Colin Rea, the Cubs’ starter, doesn’t inspire much confidence. Vargas is a smash play here.
1Bs Rhys Hoskins (CLE), Kyle Manzardo (CLE), $2,800/$2,700: This one will be dependent on the lineup card. Only one of these guys likely gets in Stephen Vogt’s lineup on Sunday. But regardless, they have huge potential as a bottom-barrel value. Reds starter Brady Singer has been getting pummeled recently and is prone to giving up loud contact, which favors both of these sluggers. Wait for the lineup to drop, then lock them into your first base slot.
2B Travis Bazzana (CLE), $3,700: Let’s double down on the Singer fade. Travis Bazzana is holding his own as a very young rookie and is a demon on the basepaths. His base-stealing and ability to get that extra base on a hit will come in handy against a struggling starter. His price is continuing to rise, but he’s still a value at this stage.
SS Brayan Rocchio (CLE), $2,800: Why not go for a whole Cleveland infield here? Rocchio has a serious knack for driving in runs, on top of a strong batting average and base-stealing game. He had a very productive day on Saturday, piling up 17 DFS points, and is in line for another good day against Singer.
OF Jordan Walker (STL), $5,300: Jordan Walker’s turn from top prospect bust to breakout star has been remarkable. He has crushed 13 home runs already and has an OPS approaching 1.000. Walker’s success has been in the middle of St. Louis’ surprisingly robust lineup. Kansas City starter Stephen Kolek has surrendered three home runs across his first two starts of the season; this is an excellent spot for Walker to put one in the outfield bleachers.
OF Ian Happ (CHC), $4,300: Quiet as it’s kept, Ian Happ has been tremendously valuable for the Cubs this year. He’s up to 10 home runs and continues to offset a low batting average with a ton of walks and extra-base-hit potential. White Sox starter Erick Fedde is awfully hittable and makes Happ an appealing option here.
OF Sam Antonacci (CHW), $3,800: The youth movement on the south side of Chicago has been exciting, and the call-up of young prospect Sam Antonacci has only added fuel to the fire. The 23-year-old is regularly hitting at the top of the lineup, producing strong on-base skills. That has immense potential when you’re hitting ahead of the Murakami-Vargas-Montgomery trio.
