Chase Burns, Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Mets ($11,000) — Burns has been a little lucky, as the 3.24 FIP is higher than the 2.14 ERA with a .243 BABIP and 91.3% strand rate. That said, he averages 98.1 mph on the fastball and the K-BB% is 21.9%. Burns has put up double-digit FPTS in all but one start this season with nine over 20 FPTS and a high of 31.7 FPTS. New York is only 23rd in ISO and 29th in both wOBA and wRC+.
Dustin May, St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres ($7,300) — After a rough two starts to open the season, May has certainly settled down, pitching at least five innings in 11 straight starts with eight of those at least six innings. From a fantasy perspective, eight of those have been double-digit FPTS with five over 20 FPTS. The three most recent outings have resulted in 26.5, 20.6 and 30 FPTS. May’s FIP of 3.22 is much lower than the 4.21 ERA. He’s only allowed five home runs in 72.2 innings while the barrel rate is only 6.7%. San Diego is eighth in strikeouts, 20th in ISO, dead-last in wOBA and 28th in wRC+.
Michael Busch, Chicago Cubs vs. Colorado Rockies ($4,800) — Over the last five games, Busch has put up double-digit FPTS in four of those contests. The last time he failed to put up at least 1 FPTS was back on May 23rd. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 133 while the ISO is .174. Six of the eight home runs hit have come off a righty. Michael Lorenzen has a 6.43 FIP and 9.3% K-BB% against lefties. Eight of the 11 home runs allowed have come off the bat of a lefty.
Nick Madrigal, Los Angeles Angels at Arizona Diamondbacks ($2,400) — Madrigal is a light-hitting infielder with a career .069 ISO. I usually shun these type of players, but he’s put up double-digit FPTS in three of the last seven games. He only has 39 plate appearances on the season, but the strikeout rate is microscopic 5.1% while the walk rate is 12.8%. The .387 BABIP is fueling the .364 batting average but he’s on a little heater right and is cheap.
Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros vs. Detroit Tigers ($6,200) — In 310 plate appearances, Alvarez has 24 home runs, 49 runs, 54 RBI and a stolen base. The walk rate is 14.8%, strikeout rate is 17.1% and the ISO is .331. The slash is .327/.435/.658. The average exit velocity is 94.6 mph, barrel rate is 18.4% and the bat speed is 75.9 mph. L. O. L. Now he faces Troy Melton, who has a 6.22 FIP and 6% K-BB% against lefties.
Tyler Callihan, Pittsburgh Pirates at Athletics ($2,400) — Callihan has racked up 26 plate appearances this season and is slashing .350/.500/.850 with a 23.1% walk rate, 23.1% strikeout rate and .500 ISO. He has two home runs, six runs, six RBI and a stolen base. The .417 BABIP is doing most of the heavy lifting but the average exit velocity is 91.4 mph with a 26.3 degree launch angle and 21.4% barrel rate. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 235 while the ISO is .529. Both home runs have come off righties. Small sample size, but it is what it is. JT Ginn has a 4.84 FIP and 6.9% K-BB% against lefties while five of the eight home runs allowed have come off the bat of a lefty. In the five most recent contestss, Callihan has contributed 5, 8, 0, 12 and 38 FPTS.
