Thursday’s slate features a full day of games, highlighted by Paul Skenes extending his dominant stretch for Pittsburgh, Framber Valdez drawing a strong matchup against Atlanta, and Kevin Gausman continuing his excellent early-season run for Toronto.
Valdez has been fantastic this season, posting a 3.41 ERA with an xERA of 3.93 and a 3.80 FIP. He’ll oppose Elder, who has a 1.95 ERA with an xERA of 2.85 and a 3.13 FIP.
Lambert will be making his third start of the season. Thus far, he’s allowed four runs on 10 hits with 16 strikeouts through 11 innings. Young will be making his third start and has allowed only three runs on nine hits through 10.2 innings.
Dobbins will make his first start of the season in the majors after making five starts in the minors. Through 22.2 innings, he posted a 4.37 ERA with a 4.90 FIP and a 7.5 K/9. Skenes hasn’t allowed more than an earned run in five straight starts.
Lorenzen is giving up a lot of contact but is limiting the damage. He hasn’t allowed more than two runs in four of his last five starts despite giving up seven hits in all of them. Abbott is really struggling on the mound, as he comes into this start with a 6.59 ERA, an xERA of 5.55, and a 4.97 FIP.
Houser has allowed at least four earned runs in four straight starts, including eight against the Marlins his last time out. Painter has been the victim of some bad luck, as his ERA sits at an inflated 5.25 with an xERA of 3.93.
Mikolas has been used in a long relief role lately and still can’t find his form. In three long relief appearances, Mikolas has allowed five runs on 11 hits through 11 innings. Peralta has been inducing a lot of ground balls this season, as his 42.4% rate is currently a career-high.
Soroka is currently striking out batters at a much higher rate than normal, as his 11.06 K/9 is by far a career-high. Meanwhile, Woodruff currently has one of the lowest K/9 rates of his career at 7.2 through 28.2 innings.
After starting off the season strong, Cameron has now allowed 13 runs on 21 hits over his last three starts. Springs has also been a victim of poor starts lately, allowing 11 runs on 14 hits against the Rangers and White Sox.
Gausman has been dealing through 35 innings, posting a 2.57 ERA with a 2.98 xERA and a 9.7 K/9.
