Drew Rasmussen, Tampa Bay Rays vs. Los Angeles Angels ($8,500) — Rasmussen has been solid with a 23.4% strikeout rate and 18.8% K-BB%. The FIP is 3.47 while the average exit velocity is 87 mph, launch angle is only 8.8 degrees and barrel rate is 7.7%. He’s put up double-digit FPTS in all but one start this season with five over 20 and a high of 30.9 FPTS. Now he gets to face an Angels team that is first in strikeouts, 20th in wOBA and 21st in wRC+.
Christian Scott, New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins ($6,700) — In six starts, Scott has pitched 25.1 innings and posted a 3.46 FIP with a 26.3% strikeout rate. The walk rate is high at 12.3%, though. The average exit velocity is 87 mph while the barrel rate is only 1.5%. In his first start of the season, he threw only 43 pitches. In the next four starts, the pitch count was 74, 82, 89 and 81 but he reached five innings only once. In the most recent outing, he went 5.2 innings and threw 94 pitches. Now, that game was against the Marlins, so the familiarity may not be a good thing for Scott. That said, he’s cheap, looks to be stretched out and he already proved he can get through the Marlins lineup unscathed.
Brandon Lowe, Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Minnesota Twins ($5,600) — Lowe has 14 home runs, 33 runs and 36 RBI in 224 plate appearances. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is a whopping 178 with a .341 ISO. 11 of the 14 home runs hit have come off righties. The average exit velocity is 90 mph, launch angle is 16.5 degrees and the barrel rate is 13.9%. Bailey Ober has a 5.55 FIP and 7.8% K-BB% against lefties. Seven of the nine home runs have come off the bat of a lefty.
Spencer Horwitz, Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Minnesota Twins ($3,500) — Yup, we stacking against Ober. Horwitz is slashing .283/.389/.453 in 193 plate appearances. The walk rate is 14.5%, strikeout rate is only 12.4% and the ISO is .179. He has six home runs, 21 runs, 25 RBI and a stolen base. The average exit velocity is only 85.6 mph, though, while the barrel rate is 5.8%. The bat speed is only 68.6 mph. That said, all six home runs have come off a righty and the wRC+ is 149 with an ISO of .199 against right-handed pitching.
Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros vs. Milwaukee Brewers ($6,100) — Alvarez. Good at baseball. He has 20 home runs, 37 runs, 39 RBI and a stolen base in 248 plate appearances. The walk rate is 14.9%, strikeout rate is only 16.9% and the ISO is .346! Only Kyle Schwarber has a higher ISO on the season. Now he faces Brandon Sproat, who has a 5.88 FIP and only 8.2% K-BB% against lefties.
Yohendrick Piñango, Toronto Blue Jays at Baltimore Orioles ($2,600) — Pinango’s slash of .291/.333/.418 is fueled by a .350 BABIP. The strikeout rate is a respectable 20.2% and he’s hit two home runs with six runs and 13 RBI in 84 plate appearances. The average exit velocity is 90.2 mph while the bat speed is 75.6 mph, but the launch angle is only 6.9 degrees while the barrel rate is 6.5%. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 127. Over the last seven games, Pinango has produced at least 3 FPTS in all but one with two double-digit performances. Brandon Young has a 5.11 FIP and 1% K-BB% against lefties.
