ZT breaks down his top player props to consider for Sunday Night Baseball’s matchup between the Cleveland Guardians and the Atlanta Braves.
Sunday Night Baseball has been featuring some fun interleague matchups in the early part of the season, and that continues this week with a matchup between the Cleveland Guardians and the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on Sunday night. The hometown Braves are favored at -194 on Sunday Night Baseball with the over/under at seven runs. One way to get a piece of the action in this 7:20 p.m. ET primetime matchup is by finding a few player prop bets that are strong plays in the contest.
For each Major League Baseball matchup, DraftKings Sportsbook has a wide variety of batter and pitcher props on the board. Let’s take a look at my top three best bets for this Sunday Night Baseball contest on NBC and Peacock.
Baldwin has an impressive total of 50 HRR (hits, runs and RBI) in his first 15 games this season, averaging 3.3 HRR per game. He is 20-for-61 (.328) with two doubles, five homers, a .444 wOBA and a 1.004 OPS.
The 25-year-old lefty is in his second full season in the majors, and his hard-hit rate is actually down just a little bit, but his barrel rate is up and his ISO has jumped from .195 to .279.
If the Braves get their offense going against Tanner Bibee and the Guardians, Baldwin will be right in the middle of things. He had at least three HRR in five straight before going 1-for-3 with a walk and just one HRR on Saturday. Bibee has scuffled a little bit through his first three starts, letting lefties like Baldwin hit three homers with a .364 wOBA in 36 plate appearances.
Baldwin has been locked into the second spot in the order and was the designated hitter on Saturday. He will likely head back behind the plate for Sunday’s game, but wherever he plays, his offense gives him lots of paths to success to get to at least three HRR on Sunday night.
Bibee has worked 13 2/3 innings in his three starts this season, coming in under this prop line in every start this year. He worked 15 outs in his season debut against the Mariners but has only managed 12 and 14 outs in his last two outings. In each of those starts, he only gave up one run, but his pitch count climbed early.
In his first start of the year, he left early with a shoulder injury, but he didn’t miss a start. He hasn’t looked quite right since then, though, so he could be set up for another early exit this Sunday.
The Guardians got a great start from Parker Messick on Saturday night, as the young lefty went 6 2/3. The bullpen should be well-rested as a result of that start and ready to take over if Bibee continues to have issues. If he gets through six innings to get over this prop, it’ll be the first time this season for the 27-year-old righty.
I also included a Tanner Bibee strikeout prop in my top strikeout props for the day.
The Guardians will be facing lefty Chris Sale, which means Martinez will likely hit second in the order behind Steven Kwan. Martinez has multiple hits in each of his last four games, going 10-for-17 (.588) with 18 total bases in that four-game stretch.
Martinez had his huge grand slam against the Royals on Wednesday and picked up two hits on Friday and Saturday. He also stole a base in each of the last two games, and the 24-year-old is stepping up as a part of the Guardians’ exciting young outfield. While Chase DeLauter has gotten most of the hype, Martinez is usually a better option against lefties like Sale.
