Charlie Cummings breaks down the favorites to be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft now that the draft lottery has been completed
On Sunday, one of the most hyped NBA draft lotteries in recent memory was settled. With so much discussion surrounding tanking, plus a lot of elite prospects at the top of the 2026 draft class, it felt like a watershed moment for several teams. Now we have our results, and the Washington Wizards have received the first-overall pick in the draft. Who is the betting favorite to get taken at the top spot?
Let’s look at a snapshot of the favorites to be selected with the top pick on DraftKings Sportsbook:

Generally, the 2026 NBA Draft is viewed as a three-player class between AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer. But it’s clear that Dybantsa has taken pole position on being the top selection. A ridiculous athlete at 6-foot-9, Dybantsa led all of D-I in scoring with an efficient 25.5 points per game, earning him a first-team All-American nod. Dybantsa’s scoring reel at BYU showcases everything you want to see from a perimeter scorer.
Behind him is Darryn Peterson, who had a drama-filled season at Kansas. He was wildly productive as a scorer, especially from beyond the arc, but the off-court drama and injury concerns seemed to override that. Peterson and seemingly everyone at the Kansas program were frustrated by his inability to stay healthy for long stretches, as he suffered from recurring soft-tissue injuries. That frustration seemed to threaten his draft stock in a major way, but as the favorite to be selected No. 2 overall, it hasn’t done much damage. His medical reports will hold significant sway over his future.
Bringing up the rear of the realistic top picks is Cameron Boozer. The Duke product and son of Carlos Boozer was the 2025/26 AP Player of the Year after putting up an incredibly strong campaign, averaging over 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists per game. He’s an incredible offensive talent for a big man, blending traditional center skills with great shooting and passing. Questions about his size and defensive fit seem to be pushing him to the back of the top three, but Boozer would be a consensus No. 1 pick in most drafts. If he does indeed slip to third, the Memphis Grizzlies won’t complain.
After Boozer, we get into the unrealistic long shots. Boozer’s odds are closer to Caleb Wilson’s than they are to Dybantsa’s, but there is a real chance in the pre-draft process that the Wizards (or a team trading up to No. 1) falls in love with him. It’s a three-man race. Time to pick your horse.
The NBA Draft will begin on Tuesday, June 23rd, and take place in Brooklyn, New York.
