Cirie Field and Rick Devens were both getting a “winner’s edit,” taking up most of the screen time. However, both exited the show in the last episode. When it comes to the final five, the winner comes down to Ervin and Aubry Bracco for me. Rizo Velovic does not have a lot of friends on the jury and Joe Hunter has not made any kind of moves worth of winning a season like this. Jonathan Young has a compelling case, but in my opinion not as strong as either of the women left. Ultimately, between Ervin and Bracco, I find it more likely that Ervin wins this next challenge to secure herself a spot in the final four and have all the momentum going into final tribal. That would lead to Bracco getting voted off next, then a likely fire-making stand-off between Young and Velovic, with Hunter getting the other automatic spot in the final three. In that scenario, Ervin would be my pick to win the historic season. While for a long time it looked like Cirie Fields would win it, it could instead be Fields’ apprentice, Tiffany Ervin, that wins Survivor 50.
Sometimes, the winner’s edit leads viewers astray. I do not anticipate that will be the case this time around. All signs have been pointing towards Aubry’s redemption arc since the interviews began honing in on her strategic mindset over the last five or six episodes. While others were putting plans in motion, she was determining the outcome of votes, laying out her goals and executing them time after time. The biggest threat to Aubry appears to be Tiffany Ervin heading into the finale thanks to her plethora of allies on the jury. The urgency to get Tiff out was made apparent last episode, and I expect that will carry over into the finale. Can Ervin win out to secure herself a spot in the final tribal council? It’s possible, but not likely. Meanwhile, Jonathan Young’s strategic evolution from his first season to 50 has been somewhat unparalleled, but the numbers on the jury aren’t in his favor. In reality, Jonathan, Aubry and Rizo Velovic are all responsible for the two recent massive moves to send home legends Ozzy Lusth and Cirie Fields. However, if Aubry makes it to the final three, I have no doubt she’ll be able to convince the jury that she spearheaded those votes. Bracco will paint a picture of her bitter loss to Michele Fitzgerald in Kaôh Rōng, and how she adapted this time around to avoid the same mistakes. In the moment, Aubry’s eventual win may seem underwhelming, but I have a feeling it will age quite well.
I’m going to be upfront about this — I wanted Cirie to finally get her much-deserved Survivor win. I thought that Cirie was playing the best game throughout the season, keeping her allies safe while also seemingly moving things according to her plan. However, that came to an end last week thanks to Aubry, who I think will actually win Season 50. Aubry hasn’t stood out for most of the season, but she has played a major role in the ouster of both Ozzy and Cirie (no matter what Jonathan thinks). She’s also clearly getting the “winner’s edit” and it doesn’t really feel like there is a close second. If I had to make an argument for another player it would be Tiff, as she’s come on strong late. But I have a hard time seeing someone who we saw so little of early in the season winning the $2 million (thanks, Mr. Beast!). Jonathan has been getting on my nerves the last few weeks, and Joe has been annoying all season. But the one player who would truly upset me if they win is Rizo. He really has done nothing all season … except turn on both his allies and generally look lazy at whatever camp he’s resided. I actually saw a telling Tweet the other day. Basically, it asked why was Rizo happier to lose to Aubry and Jonathan than to his allies Cirie and Ozzy? He is losing either way (none of these vets is giving the money to the R-I-Z-G-O-D), so why not stick with his allies? Put it all together, and I have to go with Aubry even if I wish it were Cirie. At least there’s always the fan favorite prize.
After last week’s monumental double-elimination, Aubry is the clear favorite to take home the Survivor 50 crown. Her storyline has been all about surpassing expectations after being counted out. On a season that’s featured 24 of the biggest names in the show’s history, a slept-on winner almost makes too much sense. A quick glance at the jury suggests that there are plenty of potential advocates (Rick, Christian) and not that many detractors. In terms of reaching Final Tribal Council, Tiffany and Jonathan might be bigger targets for the remaining five players. Add it all up, and I’m expecting a historic evening for this four-time returnee.
