Bryan Armetta breaks down Tuesday’s one-game featured NBA playoffs DFS slate to find two undervalued players to slot into your lineups.
Just one matchup is on tap tonight across the NBA: Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals between the Timberwolves and Spurs. Minnesota tied this series up at 2-2 on Sunday, due in part to an elbow from Victor Wembanyama ($12,000). Now, with the big man back in action, San Antonio will look to pick up a crucial win at home.
On this select one-game featured NBA DFS slate, options are limited for fantasy managers. With that being said, that doesn’t mean there isn’t any value to be had. Snagging a few low-cost role players could boost any lineup this evening. Which bargains deserve a closer look ahead of Tuesday’s Game 5 showdown?

On most nights, $5,000 isn’t exactly a steal. Still, with just two total teams taking the floor, paying up for a bargain or two is necessary. After all, Champagnie is the kind of high-upside depth piece that could pay major dividends. Through nine games during the playoffs, he’s putting up 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists (24.6 FPTS). In addition, Champagnie has shot 52% from the field and 49% from three-point range. Keep in mind, the forward is taking 5.0 attempts per game from beyond the arc this postseason.
Granted, getting off shots is no guarantee tonight against a formidable Timberwolves defense. Still, that hasn’t proven to be a major issue for Champagnie so far. The St. John’s alum has drained nine three-pointers during the first four games of this series. That’s despite a dismal 0-for-5 performance from long distance in Game 4. The absence of Wembanyama may have played a role in those struggles; Minnesota didn’t have to exert as much defensive effort inside of the paint. Champagnie has logged at least 29 minutes in six of his nine appearances this postseason. With such a reliable workload, San Antonio’s secret weapon makes plenty of sense for fantasy managers.
We’ll go with a truly deep sleeper for the second leg of our list tonight. Terrance Shannon Jr. is by no means a household name. The former Illinois star has been confined to a bench role during his first two seasons in the NBA. However, for a Wolves team missing Donte DiVincenzo (ankle), any microwave scorer off the bench is a welcome sight. After averaging 5.6 points per game in the regular season, Shannon Jr. has enjoyed a mini-breakout during the playoffs. Through seven games this postseason (three starts), the wing has recorded 11.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists (18.11 FPTS).
It’s worth noting that this series hasn’t been quite as kind to Shannon Jr. Over his first four games vs. the Spurs, he’s gone 14-of-43 from the field (32% FG) and three-of-13 from deep (23% 3PT). Still, he’s managed to log at least 20 minutes in each of those appearances. A somewhat consistent workload means more than performance for fantasy purposes, especially bargains. Besides, it’s not as if the Timberwolves have an abundance of depth right now. It’s between Shannon Jr., Bones Hyland ($2,800) and veteran Mike Conley ($2,400) for playing time out of the back court. Keeping that in mind, the 25-year-old is someone worth consideration this evening.
