Ryan Wohl breaks down his best bet for Asu Almabayev vs. Charles Johnson at the UFC’s event in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Two talented Flyweight contenders, Asu Almabayev and Charles Johnson, will face off in a high-stakes 125-pound matchup. Almabayev, 23-3 with 13 finishes, has won two straight while Johnson is coming off a split decison victory over Bruno Silva. The Main Card for today’s UFC Fight Night begins at 12:00 p.m. ET as it is taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Check out my best bet for Asu Almabayev vs. Charles Johnson at UFC Baku.
Johnson, 35, is 2-2 in his previous four fights but 6-2 in the last two years. Throughout his career, Johnson has displayed elite upside but has lacked consistency. Almabayev is 19-1 in his previous 20 fights and has a 6-1 record in the UFC over the last three years.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Almabayev is a -270 favorite with Johsnon as a +220 underdog in this contest. This fight’s over/under is 2.5 rounds, with the over at -260. Almabayev is also -110 to win by decision, with Johnson being +350 to win on the judges’ scorecards.
This fight offers a clash of styles: Almabayev is elite on the ground, with 10 career submissions, while Johnson has a ton of power, with eight career knockouts. Physically, Johnson is much bigger, with a five-inch edge in height (5’9″ vs. 5’4″) and reach (70″ vs. 65″). Johnson averages 1.77 significant strikes per minute while Almabayev lands 4.46 takedowns per 15 minutes. Two of Johnson and Almabayev’s last three fights have ended by either knockout or submission. Both guys should enter this contest more motivated than ever to score a finish, as the Flyweight division is stacked with top-tier talent. That is why I’m taking this fight to not go the distance at +165.
