Fowler is in the midst of a strong season. The six-time winner on the PGA TOUR has made 10-of-12 cuts and finished inside the top-10 four times. Most of these high finishes have come recently, as in his last four starts, Fowler has finished T8th, T9th, runner-up and T60th.
All three of these top-10s came at Signature Events that feature the PGA TOUR’s best players competing for a $20 million purse. That T60th came at the PGA Championship and while this performance was a letdown, it was a product of Fowler struggling on the complex greens at Aronimink GC, which was an issue for a good amount of the field.
Outside with his putter, Fowler gained strokes in every major category at Aronimink. The veteran has gained strokes on approach in each of his last four starts and he has shot under par in 11 of his last 16 rounds. Fowler ranks eighth in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds and he now heads to Colonial CC, which is a venue he knows very well.
Fowler has made 9-of-12 cuts at Colonial with five finishes of T16th or better. At this track the last three years, Fowler has finished T6th, T37th and T16th. He carded a 6-under 64 at this par 70 last season and Fowler has shot under par in seven of his past 12 rounds at Colonial.
This course features bentgrass greens and when we compare this field’s last 50 rounds at tracks with this type of putting surface, Fowler ranks eighth in strokes gained per round. Colonial is also a traditional par 70 with 12 par fours, so scoring well on the par four is a must and Fowler fits this mold perfectly. Four of the last winners at Colonial have finished the event top-three in par four performance and Fowler ranks fifth in the category this season.
Fowler carries the fourth-best odds to win the Charles Schwab Challenge on DraftKings Sportsbook and this is a great time to deploy him in one and done pools.
