Slafkovsky has been very quiet since his Game 1 hat-trick in the first round against the Lightning, but his metrics still suggest that some positive regression may be coming his way soon. The 22-year-old ranks second in both expected goals and high-danger chances this postseason, but the primary issue is that all of his points have come on the man advantage. Montreal has scored five fewer 5v5 goals than Buffalo this postseason, but its power play unit is talented enough to take advantage. Buffalo looked gettable at home in the first round, and I’d expect Montreal to come out a bit more aggressive in Game 2, with plenty of high-danger chances created by its deadly first line.
Gauthier has been held off the scoresheet so far this series, but he has still been aggressive offensively, logging six shots on goal and 19 shot attempts across the first two games. The Ducks will play at home tonight in Game 3, which should bode well for Gauthier and the offense, as the club has averaged a whopping 5.33 goals per game across three home games this postseason, and it is coming off a big 3-1 win in Game 2. Carter Hart has played well for Vegas, but he is still average, ranking 10th in goals saved above expected among postseason goaltenders. Gauthier scored in each of Anaheim’s home games against Vegas during the regular season and simply played better at home, averaging more shots, shot attempts and goals per game.
