Ryan Wohl breaks down his best bet for the Main Event of Saturday’s UFC event in Perth between Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates.
Saturday Night at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, former Welterweight Champion Jack Della Maddalena returns home to face Carlos Prates. JDM is coming off his first loss in nine years, while Prates is riding a two-fight winning streak. This fight is headlining this week’s UFC Fight Night, but since it is in Perth, it has a special start time of 7:00 a.m. ET on Paramount+.
Check out my best bet for Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates at UFC Perth.
Maddalena is 8-1 in the UFC with five finishes and hasn’t suffered back-to-back losses in a decade. JDM is less than a year removed from beating Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 to become UFC Champion. After coming up short against Islam Makhachev, Maddalena is back to prove that he is still among the elite at Welterweight. JDM isn’t like a ton of past former champions who have lost their title, as he is still 29 years old.
Prates’ UFC record stands at 6-1 with six knockouts and has become one of the most exciting fighters in the sport. His 11-fight winning streak ended in April 2025 against Ian Machado Garry. But Prates bounced back and proved that he is still a top-tier striker and fighter at 170 pounds. In his last fight, Prates knocked out former champion Leon Edwards in the second round, giving him the biggest win of his career. Prates’ difficult schedule continues as he takes on another former title holder.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Prates is a slight -122 favorite while JDM is a +102 underdog. This contest has an over/under of 2.5 rounds, with the over being -188.
Yes, Prates is more powerful on the feet, but JDM is the more advanced all-around striker. Prates has only been past the second round once in the UFC, and we saw how he performed against Garry. When it is a fast-paced brawl on the feet, Prates has excelled. But Della Maddalena has the tools to make this a longer fight, and if he does, this contest favors him. JDM has been knocked out only once in his career, in his first MMA fight over 10 years ago. It is unlikely that Prates or Della Maddalena will look to take the fight to the ground. In a pure striking matchup, which this should be, Della Maddalena does his best work.
