Blake Krass gives his best anytime goalscorer bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Saturday’s FIFA World Cup slate.
This is my favorite longshot goalscorer bet for Saturday. For a player who spends as much time on the ball as Ryan Gravenberch, +1000 odds are too high to score a goal. These odds could reflect his role at Liverpool, which is more defensive as a true No. 6. However, he plays much further up the pitch in a more creative role for the Netherlands. That was illustrated by Gravenberch assisting on both goals for the Dutch squad in their opening match against Japan. He was constantly on the ball and trying to create chances. Gravenberch had his best-ever goalscoring season for Liverpool last season, scoring five goals in the Premier League. He should find openings to take a couple of shots on target against Sweden and could bag one for his first World Cup goal.
Kai Havertz is a goal machine for Germany. He is the clear go-to guy up top for the Germans. There are creative players around Havertz, like Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, who can create magic and set up easy chances for Havertz. Havertz scored two goals for Germany in the opener against Curacao. While the Ivory Coast will be a tougher test than Curacao, they are not a perfect team defensively. They did a great job in the opener against Ecuador, but Ecuador is a much more defensive team with not very much firepower going forward. Ivory Coast will have a much tougher time slowing down the German attack, led by Havertz.
Havertz’s last three matches have been the Champions League Final for Arsenal, a friendly against the USMNT, and the opening World Cup match against Curacao. He has scored in all three of those massive fixtures. Havertz should keep the momentum rolling and score another goal for his country.
Ecuador was held goalless in its opening match against the Ivory Coast. Coming into the tournament, Ecuador was a dark-horse pick to go far by many due to their high-level defense. However, their opening match illustrated the danger of backing a very defensive side. They defended well for 89 minutes, but couldn’t get anything going with their attacking players. Then, in the 90th minute, Amad Diallo scored a goal and stole all three points against Ecuador. Now, Ecuador is on the back foot and needs three points in this match against Curacao. Curacao is one of the lowest-ranked teams in the tournament, and they were thoroughly decimated by Germany 7-1 in the opener. Ecuador should be much more aggressive moving forward and score a couple of goals in this match.
My pick to score a goal for Ecuador is John Yeboah. Yeboah scored 10 goals in Serie B for Venezia last season. Yeboah also scored a goal for his country in a friendly against Morocco in March. John Yeboah had three shots in the opening match against the Ivory Coast, the most of anyone on the team. He has a great chance to score a goal against a very vulnerable Curacao side.
