Ryan Wohl gives his picks for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night in Perth, headlined by Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates.
For the second time in the previous seven months, the UFC will host a Fight Night event in Perth, Australia. This is the fifth UFC event taking place at the RAC Arena. The last time the UFC was in Perth, Carlos Ulberg defeated Dominick Reyes in September 2025. Former Welterweight Champion Jack Della Maddalena is from Perth and will headline this card against Carlos Prates.

After starting his UFC career 4-0 with three finishes, Quillan Salkilld is now facing Beneil Dariush, who is a major step up in competition. At UFC 325 in Sydney, Australia, Salkilld submitted Jamie Mullarkey in the first round. Although Dariush is 1-3 in his previous four contests, he is still ranked No. 12 at 155 pounds.
Yes, Dariush has the edge in experience in this fight, but skill-wise, Salkilld is currently on a different level. Salkilld is two inches taller (6’0″ vs. 5’10”), with a three-inch reach advantage (75″ vs. 72″). On the feet, Salkilld averages 5.16 significant strikes per minute, which is 1.38 more than Dariush. Also, Salkilld has a 57 percent striking accuracy compared to Dariush’s 49 percent.
But Salkilld is a versatile fighter, excelling on the ground with nearly eight takedowns per 15 minutes. Salkilld does an excellent job of feeling his opponent out and deciding where to take the fight. Salkilld is averaging 114 fantasy points per contest, which is the most among the fighters on this card. He has yet to record under 100 points in a UFC fight. Salkilld’s pace and output will likely overwhelm Dariush.
This week’s UFC Fight Night Main Event is a tremendous contest between two top contenders at 170 pounds. Della Maddalena enters this bout off a loss to Islam Makhachev, while Prates has scored two straight knockouts, with his last coming against Leon Edwards. Prates is 13-1 in his previous 14 fights with 12 wins by knockout.
This is a contest between two elite strikers, making for an excellent matchup. JDM lands 1.80 more significant strikes per minute, but Prates is more efficient (55% vs. 51%). Della Maddalena is the much better defensive fighter in this matchup. His defensive rate is 63 percent, 16 percent higher than Prates’. Prates might have the edge in power, but JDM still has 12 career knockouts and is capable of finishing opponents as well.
JDM has scored 100 fantasy points in five of his eight wins in the UFC. Prates’ power has been too much for all his UFC opponents to handle, except for Ian Machado Garry. Della Maddalena has the skills to limit Prates’ output and production in this contest. If Della Maddalena can display elite defense early in this contest, it will likely frustrate Prates. The longer this fight lasts, the more it favors JDM, as he has more experience in those situations.
At 39, Tim Elliott is experiencing a resurgence. After 20 months away, Elliott made his return against Kai Asakura at UFC 319 and picked up a second-round submission. Elliott is 4-1 in his previous five contests. He is facing former title challenger Steve Erceg, who recently snapped his previous losing streak against Ode Osbourne in August 2025.
Erceg has the edge on paper, as he is taller (5’8″ vs. 5’7″) and has a longer standing reach (68″ vs. 66″). On the feet, Erceg is slightly better as he averages more significant strikes per minute (4.00 vs. 3.37) at a higher rate (45% vs. 44%). But the contest favors Elliott on the ground as he lands 2.71 takedowns per 15 minutes at a 47 percent rate.
Elliott is a good defensive fighter, as he absorbs only 2.65 significant strikes per minute, 1.14 fewer than Erceg allows. Although Elliott is the fourth-cheapest fighter on this slate at $6,900, he is coming off two elite performances. Elliott has scored 97.2 and 106 fantasy points in his previous two victories. Erceg has often been too passive, and if that is the case against Elliott, he should be able to implement his game plan.
