Charlie Cummings previews Tuesday’s WNBA matchup between the Atlanta Dream and the Dallas Wings and provides his best pick.
Both the Atlanta Dream and Dallas Wings picked up electric wins to kick off their 2026 WNBA campaigns. Now, the two talented squads will face off Tuesday night and are looking to continue their momentum. Who is going to take home the win?
Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET. The Dream are -142 moneyline favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, while a Wings upset is priced at +120. The spread in favor of Atlanta is -2.5, and the game total is set at O/U 181.5 points.
Let’s get into a pick and prediction for this Dream-Wings game.
Atlanta made some huge waves this offseason with the Angel Reese acquisition. The best rebounder in the W and one of the top defenders, Reese significantly improves what was already a great defense. She sure made her impact felt in the first game of the season against the Minnesota Lynx.
Adding Reese to a 30-win Dream team that already has multiple All-Stars in Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray is dangerous. Don’t be surprised to see this team contending.
Dallas also got plenty of hype this offseason, landing a second straight No. 1 pick to secure the Paige Bueckers-Azzi Fudd pairing. The two Connecticut teammates will be the future of this Wings team, but it’s not a two-player show. Jessica Shepard and Alanna Smith both came over from the Lynx in the offseason and will be pivotal parts of this defense. Odyssey Sims remains eternally useful, and Aziaha James looks like a solid rotation piece in the making. Bueckers is the engine that drives the team, but she’s got plenty of help. And if you need a good measure of Bueckers’ talent, just look how the Indiana Fever treated her during Saturday’s game.
The swing factor here is Dallas’ defense. Atlanta is a behemoth on both ends of the floor and should be in the top three in total offense and defense by the end of the season. There’s no doubt the Wings can score at a high level, but how much improvement will they have on the other end of the floor? They were in the bottom three in just about every defensive metric last season, and giving up 100+ points to the Fever in the first game doesn’t inspire confidence.
Now we have a good idea what to expect from these teams. Who is going to come out the winner?
My main concern with this Wings team is the inability to handle multiple backcourt options. Dallas did all they could to stop Caitlin Clark in the first game, which went well, but that also contributed to Kelsey Mitchell torching them for 30 points. It’s a real pick-your-poison situation between Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard, and even if they keep a lid on one of them, the other will get busy. If this gets into a bucket-trading match, Dallas has a chance, but Atlanta’s defense is too talented to get run over for a second game in a row.
