Cooper Albers provides the latest power rankings for each contestant on Love Island USA Season Eight after Week 2.
Another week in paradise. Another vote hanging in the balance.
The sole off-night on Love Island USA’s daily release schedule presents the perfect time to reflect on the first two weeks in the villa — and see where our islanders stand going forward.
Let’s dive into my power rankings for Love Island USA Season Eight after Week 2.
Was there ever any doubt who he was going to write to? KC is tossing a complete-game shutout through two weeks of Love Island USA, and he stamped his MVP case with a heartfelt letter to Aniya. Despite being essentially encouraged to test his connection with Sol, KC stuck with his first option, explaining that his humor functions as a defense mechanism and that he wants to be more vulnerable with Aniya as they work through their challenges together.
If the winner of Tuesday’s love-letter game were determined by emotional impact alone, the trophy would almost certainly go to Trinity. Bryce was on the verge of tears as he read her honest expression of appreciation and commitment to their connection, solidifying them as one of the strongest couples heading into Week 3.
Aniya’s growing insecurity in her relationship with KC came close to a boiling point during Tuesday’s love-letter game. It didn’t. Instead, she drafted a vulnerable admission of her tendency to overthink and spiral, reassuring KC that the only thing “safe” about their relationship was how she feels around him. KC let out several “damn”s as he worked down the page.
Bryce matched Trinity’s energy in the love-letter game, reaffirming his commitment to her amid a week of uncertainty. It’s going to take some time for him to live down the fact that he jeopardized several relationships by trying to explore a connection with Kayda — and once again getting friend-zoned by her in favor of his best mate Zach — but he’s locking in when it matters most.
Kayda has been grinning from ear to ear since booking the season’s first stay in the elusive Hideaway with Zach. The OG bombshell’s intentions come off as pure, as she’s visibly smitten by the curly-haired Brit. It seems like only a matter of time before the couple closes things off.
Zach may be the Stephen Curry to Charlie’s Seth. He’s locked into a relationship with Kayda, reiterating their status as one of the strongest couples during Tuesday’s love-letter challenge. Still, his penchant for gossip and drama could snowball into a major problem in the coming weeks.
Sol has lost some steam after an all-time bombshell debut, and she was one of only two islanders not to receive a letter in Tuesday’s challenge. Still, the best thing that could have happened to her was getting away from Sincere — affording her a fresh start in the villa and the chance to explore an intriguing new pairing with fellow castaway Caleb.
Kenzie spent the first week in paradise openly pining for a cowboy. Then Caleb rode in, and all of a sudden, she decided she didn’t want one anymore. Caleb heads into Week 3 free from the messy love triangle with Kenzie and Corbin, and with perhaps his most freedom to explore since arriving at the villa. His new pairing with Sol could be an interesting dynamic to watch over the coming days.
A touching note to Jen revealed that Gabriel is far more than just a pair of lips — though there’s little sign he plans to tone down the kissing any time soon. His feelings for Jen seem genuine, perhaps more than production has led us to believe, but it’s hard to ignore just how quickly he moved on from Beatriz. (I counted 38 seconds.)
The “Corbin is a robot” memes have infiltrated the villa, with the male islanders joking about his blank stare and inscrutable demeanor. While his flirting still needs some serious work, he’s slowly revealing more of his personality — including a compelling hint of self-awareness. Corbin might have his hands full with Kenzie, but it doesn’t seem like anything is getting in the way of him having a good time on the island.
Maybe America was cooking when it paired Jen up with Gabriel. The couple seems to have sparked a genuine connection, and she even snuck a little Portuguese into her letter. Even so, Jen hasn’t been given much to do, especially compared to co-bombshell Sol, leaving her with little chance to make a lasting impression on viewers. For Jen, a bit more screen time could go a long way.
Last week’s recoupling seemed like a breakthrough moment for Melanie. After America voted to pair Sincere with Sol, she took the news in stride and embraced the opportunity to remove herself from the toxic love triangle. That growth lasted all of four days, and we head into Week 3 watching a regrettable backslide unfold in real time.
Sincere’s connection with Melanie isn’t electric — it’s gaslit. Fueled by limerence, he keeps bouncing between Melanie and Sol, telling each woman exactly what she wants to hear to maintain control. While technically within the rules of the game, it’s unethical hoops in its purest form: the Love Island USA equivalent of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at the free-throw line.
While Kenzie found her way back to Corbin during the love-letter game, let’s not brush past her telling Jen, “I’m not gonna talk to him unless he kisses me.” The comment was strange and borderline manipulative, suggesting that she has little regard for the feelings of either Corbin or Caleb as she continues to revel in being the center of a love triangle. Meanwhile, Melanie — at least before recoupling with Sincere — was taking unfair collateral damage from the situation.
Also, despite being a nursing graduate, Kenzie argued that her 20/30 vision was better than Caleb’s 20/13. But I digress.
