The Senators are almost assuredly going to fall to the Hurricanes in this series as they stare down a 3-0 deficit. Despite catching fire in the second half of the regular season, Ottawa hasn’t looked the part of a legitimate postseason challenger as the offense has almost entirely dried up with only three goals across three playoff games. Netminders often bear the brunt of the blame for losses, but don’t let anyone tell you it’s been an issue in this series. Linus Ullmark leads all goalies in the postseason with 5.3 goals saved above expected, a very impressive mark given that his expected goals against sits at 12.28, over three more than the next-closest. He’s performed quite admirably against an excellent Carolina offense, logging a 2.02 GAA and .933 SV% while facing 105 shot attempts. After making over 25.5 saves in two of the three games so far, I like Ullmark to do so once again this afternoon against an offense that tends to put a ton of pucks on net.
The series between the Wild and Stars has been a Cup-worthy matchup thus far. With plenty of scoring, a double-overtime game and more scraps than you can count, this is playoff hockey at its finest. Matt Boldy has been a thorn in Dallas’ side, logging four points (2G/2A) while doing his best to get under his opponents’ skin. His offensive production has truly stood out when it comes to shot volume — his 17 shots on goal are the most of any player in the series and four more than the next-closest Minnesota skater. Boldy put eight pucks on the net in Game 1, then followed it up with five and four SOG over the next two matchups. Given that this line has cleared in all three games thus far, 4+ shots on goal feels like a great pick for the young forward today at home.
