Alex Hunter details his best NBA player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday’s NBA playoff game between the Celtics and 76ers.
The 76ers are hosting the Celtics for Game 6 of this first-round series Thursday. The Celtics lead this series 3-2 and can advance with a win. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Boston is favored by 6.5 points and this game carries a total of 212.5 points.
Let’s dive into three of my favorite player prop bets for tonight’s contest.
While the Celtics came up short, Tatum was great in Game 5, posting 24 points, 16 rebounds and four assists. Since making his season debut in early March, Tatum has been rebounding better than ever, leading Boston with 10.1 rebounds on 14.8 rebound chances per game. The forward’s playmaking has also been great, as Tatum is leading the Celtics with 5.9 assists on 10.9 potential assists per game.
Tatum has cleared 17.5 RA in eight of his last 10 starts and with a likely huge workload as Boston looks to close out the 76ers on the road, the superstar should once again top 17.5 RA in Game 6.
Edgecombe lit the Celtics up for 30 points in Game 2, but the rookie has scored just 10, six and 10 points since. Over this three-game stretch, Edgecombe is shooting just 29% from the field and 17% on three-pointers.
That outburst in Game 2 also came with Joel Embiid sidelined, so that performance is certainly skewed. The center is healthy now, putting the 76ers at full strength and in the 22 games Edgecombe, Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George have played together this season, Edgecombe is averaging 12.7 PPG with a 15.9% usage rate. At just 20-years-old, tonight’s Game 6 certainly could be too big of a moment for Edgecombe and his struggles should continue.
Maxey barely left the floor with the 76ers’ season on the line in Game 5, logging 43 minutes and with the massive volume, the guard led Philadelphia with 10 rebounds and 16 rebound chances. The huge minutes was the main factor and is likely to continue tonight for Maxey with the 76ers facing elimination again, but another big reason for his success on the glass was Embiid’s prescene.
Despite playing 38 minutes, the center only finished with four rebounds on eight rebound chances. While standing at seven feet tall, Embiid isn’t an aggressive rebounder, whereas Andre Drummond, who sees the bulk of the center minutes when Embiid is out, is a very aggressive rebounder. So, when Embiid plays, there is naturally more rebounds up for grabs, as we saw in Game 5. This season, Maxey is 4.8 rebounds per game with Embiid active, compared to 3.5 with Embiid inactive.
Maxey has grabbed at least six rebounds in four of the last six he has played alongside Embiid and Maxey is a terrific bet to surpass 3.5 rebounds tonight.
