Zach Thompson details his top starting pitcher props for Saturday night’s five-game MLB slate on DraftKings Sportsbook.
On Saturday, Major League Baseball has five games under the lights to close out a busy Saturday of action. While the crazy launching pad that is Las Vegas Ballpark is a fun part of the slate, there are also some exciting starting pitcher prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook. From Saturday’s slate, I’ve selected my favorite plays from the Phillies’ Aaron Nola, the Angels’ Jose Soriano and the Cubs’ Ben Brown.
In almost every MLB contest, starting pitching is key to deciding how the matchup will play out. DraftKings Sportsbook offers plenty of different varieties of SP prop bets, so let’s survey the field and find some fun ones to target this Saturday night.
Nola is 3-4 in his 13 games this season with a 5.86 ERA, 4.21 FIP and 1.45 WHIP. His 65.8% LOB% is below league average, meaning some regression could be coming with so much traffic on the bases.
He has allowed at least three earned runs in nine of his 13 games this season (69.2%), including four of his last six. Nola gave up five runs to the White Sox in his last outing, issuing four walks and allowing six hits in 4 1/3 innings. He hasn’t faced the Brewers this season, but they reached him for six runs in five innings when he went up against them last September at American Family Field.
The Brewers’ offense has been surging over the last week (with a little help from a trip to Denver and Las Vegas). They have racked up a league-high 48 runs over the last six games with a .316 team batting average, 14 homers and a .411 wOBA.
Milwaukee’s order backed up a sterling performance from Jacob Misiorowski to win 6-0 in the first game of this series and will look to stay hot against Nola on Saturday.
Soriano got off to a great start to the year, but his numbers have regressed a little lately. On Saturday, he’ll make his 15th start of the season, when he takes the mound in Anaheim against the Rays.
Soriano has allowed at least six hits in six of his last nine starts with a 1.58 WHIP and a .267 batting average against him during that span. He held opponents under this prop line in each of his first five starts of the year, but he has given up 51 hits in 49 1/3 innings since then.
The Rays’ lineup is not like most of the rest of the league, since they’ve emphasized contact over power and gotten some great value hitters who keep the line moving and put up solid numbers. Over the last 30 days, the team has hit .259 and averaged 8.7 hits per game for about one hit per inning. The Rays lost the first game of this series, but they should be set to bounce back against Soriano on Saturday.
The Cubs have bounced Ben Brown around a little bit this season, using the 26-year-old righty as a long reliever in the early part of the season. He moved back to the rotation in May and has made six starts, going 1-1 with a 1.44 ERA, 1.90 FIP and 34 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings. On the season, he has a 26.4% K% for 9.2 K/9.
After striking out three in four innings in his return to the rotation, Brown has fanned at least five in five straight starts. He had seven strikeouts twice during that stretch, in road starts against the Pirates and Braves.
He will face the Giants on the road on Saturday night after striking out five in 5 1/3 shutout innings last Saturday with just one hit against him.
If you are looking to be more aggressive on Saturday’s starting pitcher prop bets, you can combine the three picks in this prop to a parlay that boosts the odds to a juicy +599. Whether you play them as singles, a parlay or in a round robin format, these props are strong plays for Saturday night.
