Has AI Already Replaced Me or Do I Still Have a Chance?

This week I started looking for a job again as a .NET developer. Since the pandemic I didn’t really need to look for one, even though I occasionally did some interviews, but now I’m unemployed and needing it.

So I decided to show how this process has been and talk about my feelings during this search.

This was the first week and I’m still pretty excited even though I didn’t have much success. I applied to 20 positions, got 1 referral from a friend, however the company contacted me but they didn’t have a position that matched my profile. Still, I felt very grateful to know I can count on friends that recommend me and trust my work.

Thinking about the future while searching for a new opportunity

The other applications were through LinkedIn. I only got 1 response so far, however I was rejected right away. The recruiter said that because I don’t live in the big capital city of my country, which by the way is Brazil, it would be complicated to send the equipment, so they decided to move on with other devs.

Since I’m still used to the pandemic treatment where this would be just a minor detail and companies would even send equipment to another country to hire a developer, this makes me think there are many developers in the market right now. Especially because there wasn’t really an explanation, I had to keep asking if she was ending my application process because I live in the countryside, and she was brief: “It would be more complicated to send the equipment where you live.”

After that I got no more responses and accepted it as the end of the process.

And thinking about how these next weeks will be, with so many things in my head, I decided to write these reports to clear my mind. I also signed up for a Gemini 4 meetup, Google’s AI, to have something to do and dive deeper into AI, after all I can’t stay out of it, right?

Celebrating small wins while continuing the journey
