It’s honestly wild to see how much AI agents have accelerated things in such a short time.

Tasks that used to take weeks can now be handled in a day with the right setup. Implementation used to be where top engineers really stood out picking up the hardest problems and grinding through them. But now, agents can read docs, understand context, and execute a lot of that work.

I remember seeing a post from a YouTube co-founder saying this might be the last era of “meaningful work” as we know it. That stuck with me.

So I’m curious, how are you all actually feeling about this shift?

If things keep moving at this pace, software engineering (at least in the traditional sense) could look very different in the next couple of years. If agents handle reading, coding, and even coordination… where does that leave us?

Are there new skills we should be focusing on? New roles emerging? Or is this just another evolution we’ll adapt to like we always have?
