You built the thing and it works. In your hands, on your bench, every time. Then a friend tries it, or it sits in the garage a week, or the temperature drops, and it stops.
That space between 'works for me' and 'works for anyone' is where a lot of backyard builds stall. Usually it's a handful of repeatable causes, not bad luck.
1. You designed for one assembly. The first one fit because you nudged it into place. The second won't, unless the clearance lives in the model instead of in your hands.
2. Your fasteners are doing more than you think. Press-fits creep, hot glue lets go, jumper wires back out. The fix is boring: a screw boss, a strain relief, a connector that latches.
3. The enclosure is an afterthought. Heat, dust, and vibration are loads too. A board that's fine on your desk can cook or shake loose once it's boxed up.
4. You never wrote down why it works. When v2 breaks, you won't remember which dimension was load-bearing. A one-page note on what matters will save you.
You don't need a factory for any of this. It's just thinking one step past 'it works,' and that's a learnable step!
