What I studied

This week I continued learning Linux through the OverTheWire Bandit challenges while also studying for Functional Skills Level 2 English. Alongside my studies, I helped develop and finalise a Hennessy VSOP cocktail for a Hennessy x Bad Bunny activation at work.

Key concepts

• Linux is learned best through hands-on problem solving rather than memorisation
• File permissions control who can read, write, and execute files
• Many Linux tasks require investigation and information gathering before taking action
• Clear communication and attention to detail are valuable in both technology and hospitality
• Consistent processes produce reliable outcomes

What I didn’t understand at first

At first, I thought Linux was mainly about memorising commands. As Bandit became more challenging, I realised that the real skill is understanding how systems work and figuring out how to solve unfamiliar problems.

What clicked

The biggest shift this week was realising that technology and hospitality are not as different as they seem.

Developing a cocktail for a major brand activation follows the same principles as solving a Linux challenge: understand the requirements, follow a process, test ideas, identify mistakes, and refine the final result.

The tools are different, but the mindset is the same.

What I’ll do next

• Continue progressing through the Bandit challenges
• Strengthen my understanding of Linux file permissions and navigation
• Continue preparing for Functional Skills Level 2 English
• Begin documenting more of what I learn through LinkedIn and GitHub
• Focus on building consistent study habits each week
