Building CoralTeams: An AI-Powered Operational Intelligence Platform with Coral
Shrutik · 2026-06-01 · via DEV Community

🌊 Introduction

During the Pirates of the Coral-bean Hackathon, our team Hubble Telescope set out to solve a problem that almost every engineering organization faces:

«Critical operational information is scattered across too many tools.»

Modern teams rely on platforms like GitHub, Slack, monitoring dashboards, cloud providers, and security tools to keep systems running. While these tools are individually powerful, they often create a fragmented operational experience.

When incidents happen, engineers spend valuable time switching between dashboards, searching for context, correlating events, and gathering information before they can even begin solving the problem.

We asked ourselves:

What if operational intelligence lived in one place?

That question led to the creation of CoralTeams — an AI-powered Operational Intelligence Platform built on Coral that unifies monitoring, investigations, collaboration, and AI-driven insights into a single workspace.

What made this journey even more exciting was that Coral wasn't just our platform—it became our engineering partner throughout the entire development lifecycle.

🎯 The Problem

Consider a common production scenario:

A deployment goes live.

Minutes later:

  • 🚨 Error rates spike
  • 📈 Monitoring alerts begin firing
  • 💬 Incident channels become active
  • 🔍 Engineers start investigating
  • ☁️ Cloud systems generate operational events

The response process usually looks like this:

  • GitHub for deployment history
  • Slack for communication
  • Monitoring tools for alerts
  • Cloud dashboards for infrastructure status
  • Internal tools for operational context

The result?

❌ Constant context switching
❌ Fragmented information
❌ Slower incident resolution

We wanted to eliminate that friction.

🏴‍☠️ Introducing CoralTeams

CoralTeams is an AI-powered Operational Intelligence & Collaboration Platform designed to centralize operational workflows.

Instead of treating alerts, investigations, communication, and analysis as separate processes, CoralTeams brings everything together into one unified operational workspace.

Core Objectives

✅ Operational Visibility

✅ Structured Investigations

✅ AI-Powered Intelligence

✅ Team Collaboration

✅ Faster Incident Response

📊 Operational Command Center

The Operational Command Center serves as the real-time heartbeat of the platform.

It provides teams with instant visibility into the state of their environment through:

  • Active Incident Monitoring
  • Critical Alert Tracking
  • Operational Metrics
  • Integration Health Monitoring
  • Live Activity Streams
  • Role-Based Dashboards

Rather than opening multiple dashboards, users can immediately understand what's happening across their organization.

One dashboard.

One source of truth.

🔎 Investigation Center

The Investigation Center is where CoralTeams truly shines.

Most platforms stop at alert generation.

We wanted to help teams answer the next question:

"What actually happened?"

Each investigation is transformed into a structured workflow containing:

  • Incident Timelines
  • Evidence Collections
  • Related Operational Events
  • Investigation Graphs
  • Analyst Activity Logs
  • System Context

Instead of manually stitching together information from multiple platforms, analysts can view the complete story in one place.

This dramatically reduces investigation time and improves decision-making.

🤖 AI Analysis Engine

Operational environments generate enormous amounts of data.

The challenge isn't collecting information.

The challenge is understanding it.

To address this, CoralTeams includes an AI Analysis Engine capable of transforming raw operational signals into actionable intelligence.

Features

📄 Executive Summaries

Quick explanations of incidents and events.

🔍 Root Cause Analysis

Identification of likely causes behind operational disruptions.

🌐 Impact Assessment

Understanding which systems and services were affected.

🔗 Correlation Insights

Connecting signals originating from different tools and systems.

📊 Confidence Scores

Providing transparency into AI-generated conclusions.

⚡ Recommended Actions

Actionable next steps for engineers and analysts.

The goal is simple:

Turn operational noise into operational intelligence.

👥 Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

Different users need different levels of visibility.

CoralTeams implements Role-Based Access Control to ensure every user sees what matters most.

🪸 How Coral Accelerated Development

One of our primary goals during the hackathon was exploring how Coral could improve engineering productivity.

The result exceeded our expectations.

Coral became much more than an AI coding assistant.

It acted as a collaborative engineering teammate.

🏗️ Architecture Planning

Coral helped us define:

  • Frontend Architecture
  • Backend Services
  • API Contracts
  • Data Models
  • Investigation Flows

This allowed us to establish a scalable foundation before writing production code.

🎨 Frontend Development

Coral accelerated the creation of:

  • Authentication Systems
  • RBAC Flows
  • Operational Dashboards
  • Investigation Interfaces
  • AI Analysis Views
  • Shared Component Libraries

Rapid iteration allowed us to continuously improve UX throughout development.

⚙️ Backend Design

Coral assisted with:

  • API Design
  • Service Abstractions
  • Integration Planning
  • Database Modeling
  • Frontend-Backend Contracts

This reduced development overhead and improved team coordination.

📚 Documentation & Workflow Design

Coral also supported:

  • Technical Documentation
  • Architecture Validation
  • Workflow Design
  • Engineering Planning
  • Development Strategy

This enabled us to spend more time solving real problems and less time searching for solutions.

🏛️ Technical Architecture

Frontend

  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • Tailwind CSS

Backend

  • Node.js
  • REST APIs
  • Authentication Services
  • RBAC Middleware

Architecture Principles

  • Service-Oriented Design
  • Typed Contracts
  • Shared Service Layers
  • Reusable Components
  • Integration-Ready Architecture

This foundation makes future scaling significantly easier.

🔌 Integration Strategy

CoralTeams was designed to be integration-first.

Potential integrations include:

  • GitHub
  • Slack
  • Sentry
  • Datadog
  • Notion
  • Cloud Platforms

The vision is to transform isolated operational signals into unified investigations and actionable intelligence.

⚔️ Challenges We Faced

Information Density

Operational environments produce massive volumes of data.

The challenge was balancing visibility with simplicity.

We wanted users to access critical information without overwhelming them.

Investigation Workflow Design

Building dashboards was relatively straightforward.

Designing effective investigation workflows was much harder.

Significant effort went into determining how evidence, timelines, events, and AI insights should interact.

Team Coordination

With frontend, backend, and AI development happening simultaneously, maintaining architectural consistency became essential.

Coral helped us stay aligned throughout the project.

📖 Key Learnings

One lesson stood out throughout development:

«Data alone doesn't create value. Understanding does.»

Operational information already exists.

The real challenge is organizing it into workflows that help people make faster and better decisions.

By combining visibility, investigations, collaboration, and AI-powered reasoning, CoralTeams enables teams to move from detection to resolution with greater speed and confidence.

🚀 What's Next?

Our roadmap includes:

  • Advanced Monitoring Integrations
  • Correlation Engines
  • Automated Incident Response
  • Cloud-Native Observability
  • Enhanced AI Reasoning
  • Expanded Collaboration Features

The goal is to continue evolving CoralTeams into a complete operational intelligence platform.

🎉 Conclusion

CoralTeams was built around a simple belief:

Operational Intelligence should be Unified, Collaborative, and Actionable.

By bringing together investigations, operational signals, AI-powered analysis, and team collaboration, CoralTeams transforms fragmented information into a single operational workspace.

The Pirates of the Coral-bean Hackathon gave us the opportunity to explore not only what we could build—but how quickly we could build it with Coral.

From planning and architecture to implementation and iteration, Coral played a critical role in helping us focus on solving meaningful problems.

CoralTeams represents our vision for a future where teams spend less time switching between tools and more time making informed decisions.

One Platform.

One Investigation Flow.

One Source of Operational Truth.
