Silo season 3 premieres next week on Apple TV (watch here), with three major changes coming that have been highlighted in the season’s marketing. Spoilers ahead, but only those Apple has already revealed.

Silo is based on a trilogy of novels by Hugh Howey. Seasons 1 and 2 both covered only the first book. But rather than moving directly to book 2 in season 3, Silo’s next two seasons will interweave events from books 2 and 3.
That’s because book 2 takes place primarily in the past, exploring the origins of the silos. Whereas book 3 focuses on Juliette and the rest of the characters we already know.
So unlike Silo’s first two seasons, season 3 won’t be stuck in the drab, dark environment of the silos. Instead, much of it will take place out in the world before the silos even existed.

Because the “before times” storyline will be a significant focus of Silo season 3, there are a variety of major cast additions joining the show.
Two key new roles will be filled by Jessica Henwick and Ashley Zukerman, whose characters we got a glimpse at in season 2’s finale. Per Apple’s season summary:
Meanwhile, in the “Before Times,” journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) and Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) uncover a conspiracy that pulls them into a chain of events with catastrophic, irreversible consequences.
Additional new cast members include Laura Innes, Jessica Brown Findlay, Morven Christie, Reed Birney, Matt Craven, and Colin Hanks.

Juliette takes on a new mantle in season 3, as revealed by Apple through an exclusive Rotten Tomatoes teaser clip last month.
In season 3, the silo has a new mayor: Juliette Nichols.
Season 2 ended with Juliette and the current mayor, Bernard, struggling in the silo’s airlock as flames threaten their lives. I guess we know who survived.
