‘The Outsiders’ Recoups $11 Million North American Tour C...
Greg Evans · 2026-05-18 · via News

UPDATE: The Outsiders North American tour has officially recouped its capitalization of $11 million after just 29 weeks on the road, producers announced.

The touring production has been seen by more than 548,915 patrons in 23 cities across North America since launching on September 17, 2025, at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre in Buffalo, New York.

Tour dates are now announced through December 2027, including the show’s Canadian premiere in Toronto this summer.

The North American tour cast is led by Nolan White as Ponyboy Curtis, Bonale Fambrini as Johnny Cade, Tyler Jordan Wesley as Dallas Winston, Travis Roy Rogers as Darrel Curtis, Corbin Drew Ross as Sodapop Curtis, Emma Hearn as Cherry Valance, Jaydon Nget as Two-Bit, Andrew Cekala as Bob, and Jackson Reagin as Paul. At certain performances, Jordan DeAndre Williams will play the role of Ponyboy Curtis.

Watch on Deadline

The Outsiders opened on Broadway on April 11, 2024, and recouped its $22 million capitalization in the week ending December 28, 2025.

PREVIOUS, JANUARY 27: The Outsiders, the Tony-winning stage musical adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s coming-of-age novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s film version, has recouped its $22 million capitalization, an increasingly rare feat for new Broadway musicals.

The recoupment, reached during the week ending December 28, 2025, was announced today by producers.

“We’re thrilled by how audiences have embraced and supported The Outsiders,” said producers Matthew Rego, Michael Rego and Hank Unger of The Araca Group. “It’s been a true honor to bring Susie Hinton’s beloved book to life on stage for those who are new to this story and those who have cherished it for almost 60 years.”

The Outsiders opened on Broadway on April 11, 2024, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre following a world premiere engagement at La Jolla Playhouse in March 2023. The production won four 2024 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical (Danya Taymor), Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Hana S. Kim and Brian MacDevitt) and Best Sound Design of a Musical (Cody Spencer).

The Outsiders has played 746 performances to date to over 770,000 audience members from all 50 states and over 75 countries, producers say. The production has broken its own house record 10 times over its run and is the first show in the history of the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre to surpass a gross of $2 million in a single week.

The North American tour officially opened in October 2025 at Tulsa Performing Arts Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the home and setting of The Outsiders. The tour is now playing across the US and Canada. Future productions are planned for London’s West End, Asia, and Australia with timing and details to be announced later.

The musical features a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine, music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay & Zach Chance) and Justin Levine.

The recoupment news comes at a time when big-budget Broadway musicals are finding an increasingly dicey financial environment. Recent headline-making closings without recoupment include The Queen of Versailles, Hell’s Kitchen, Cabaret and Gypsy, among others.
