‘Death Becomes Her’ To End Broadway Run Next Month; Popul...
Greg Evans · 2026-05-18 · via News

Death Becomes Her, the critically acclaimed musical comedy that became one of the strongest box office performers of the 2024-2025 Broadway season but has in recent months been slipping below its previous $1M+ weekly high-water grosses mark, will conclude its run at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Sunday, June 28.

As of its final performance, the musical will have played 20 months, more than 650 performances and sold 900,000 tickets.

Lowe Cunningham, SVP, Head of Creative & Strategy, Universal Theatrical Group said today on behalf of the producers, “Bringing Death Becomes Her to Broadway has been an incredible joy, and we are immensely proud of every artist, musician, crew member, and individual who helped make this show what it is. Night after night, it has been a thrill to watch audiences come together to laugh, celebrate, and embrace the wildly entertaining spirit of this production. We are deeply proud of what this show has brought into the world, and we are excited for its life to continue as it tours across the U.S. and beyond in the years ahead.”

Death Becomes Her will launch a multi-year North American tour this September at Playhouse Square in Cleveland. The official route of the first year of the North American tour can be found here.

Despite its strong box office and 10 Tony Award nominations, Death Becomes Her has not recouped what has been widely reported as a $31.5 million capitalization, a stubbornly common situation among big budget Broadway musicals.

The cast and creative team of Death Becomes Her made over 30 national television appearances during the Broadway run, completing interviews and musical performances on such programs as NBC’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, CBS’s Tony Awards, NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, NBC’s Today (four musical performances and multiple interview segments), CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live, ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s The Kelly Clarkson Show, Fox’s Sherri, Bravo TV’s Watch What Happens Live, ABC’s Nightline, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, and more.

Based on the Universal Pictures 1992 film, written by David Koepp and Martin Donovan and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the musical features direction and choreography by Christopher Gattelli, a book by Marco Pennette, and an original score by Julia Mattison and Noel Carey. The production stars Betsy Wolfe, Jennifer Simard, Christopher Sieber, and Michelle Williams, with Taurean Everett and Josh Lamon.

Death Becomes Her is produced by Universal Theatrical Group (UTG), overseen by Jimmy Horowitz (Chairman of Business Affairs and Operations, NBCUniversal), and led by Lowe Cunningham (SVP, Head of Creative & Strategy, Universal Theatrical Group).
