Jim Mickle & E.L. Katz Teaming To Develop FX Drama Series...
Matt Grobar · 2026-05-30 · via News

EXCLUSIVE: FX is developing That Texas Blood, a drama series from Jim Mickle and E.L. Katz, based on the critically acclaimed Image Comics series from Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips.

Billed as Cormac McCarthy meets John Carpenter, That Texas Blood is a neo-noir Western following Sheriff Joe Bob Coates of Ambrose County, Texas, who questions his place in an increasingly violent world when a man returns home following the sudden disappearance of his brother, causing a spiral down into a past filled with treachery and blood.

Mickle and Katz will write and exec produce, with Mickle also directing the show from 20th Television. The project reunites the duo following their work on Mickle’s lauded series Hap and Leonard, which ran for three seasons on Sundance TV/AMC and concluded as the highest-rated original series in Sundance TV history.

Other executive producers on That Texas Blood include Michael Waldron and Adam Fasullo via Anomaly Pictures, which is under an overall deal at 20th, as well as Adam Fishbach, Jeremy Platt, Linda Moran, and author Condon. Jacob Phillips is serving as co-executive producer.

Watch on Deadline

Known for his work as director, showrunner, and writer of Netflix’s fantasy drama Sweet Tooth, which won eight Emmys from 30+ nominations, Mickle is currently in production on a live-action Gundam movie, based on the internationally renowned anime, for Netflix and Legendary. He’s directing from his own script, with Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo leading the cast. Also known for films like TIFF Midnight Madness winner Stake LandWe Are What We Are and Cold in July, he is repped by CAA, Untitled, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.

Katz is an acclaimed genre writer and filmmaker whose credits include the cult hit Cheap Thrills, starring Pat Healy, which won both the Audience Award and Best First Feature at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival. Most recently, he wrote and directed the horror film Azrael, starring Samara Weaving, for IFC and Shudder. On the television side, Katz directed the pilot and served as an executive producer on Peacock’s Teacup, produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster. He also served as co-executive producer and producing director on Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor and directed and produced every episode of Channel Zero: The Dream Door for Syfy and creator Nick Antosca. He is repped by CAA, Untitled, and Myman Greenspan Fox.

Anomaly Pictures’ Waldron and Adam Fasullo recently renewed their overall deal with 20th Television, the studio behind the Hulu comedy Chad Powers, which Waldron co-created and executive produces with star Glen Powell. In addition to serving as showrunner of that series, which recently wrapped on Season 2, Waldron is directing four of the six episodes, including the season premiere and finale. Waldron came to that project with a long history at Disney. Previously, he was creator, head writer and executive producer of Loki and additionally penned Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for the studio. He is repped by Untitled, CAA, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.

Condon and Phillips are repped by Untitled and Weintraub Tobin Chediak.
