In the weeks before Andrew Lloyd Webber announced the New York staging of his The Phantom of the Opera reboot Masquerade last year, cryptic messages and clues began popping up, not least being the appearance of the masked singer outside the Tony Awards ceremony.

Now, a similar approach seems to be happening with the composer’s Evita, specifically the recent
West End production starring Rachel Zegler. Clues suggest a Broadway transfer could be announced sooner than later.

Theater blogs and Reddit pages have been mulling the sudden appearance this week in the Broadway theater district of two posters bearing a blue star image that resembles the logo used by the Evita London production and on the Evita Instagram page.

This past weekend, Zegler posted a since-expired Instagram Story in which she was pictured wearing a hat that simply said “BOOKED.” And yesterday, Lloyd Webber himself posted an Instagram video of himself at a piano playing Evita‘s signature song “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina,” with Zegler commenting, “Love you so much.”

Another clue: On the official Evita Instagram page, the phrase “The truth is I never left you” – a line from “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” – has been added just below the blue star logo.

Deadline has reached out to a production spokesperson for comment and clarification.

The London revival of Evita, directed by Jamie Lloyd, began previews at the London Palladium on June 14, 2025, before opening July 1. The limited run closed on September 6, 2025.

In March, Lloyd Webber told USA Today that while he hoped for a Broadway transfer of Evita, he was not optimistic about repeating Zegler’s outside, street-facing balcony scene that took London by storm. “The one thing that absolutely cannot happen is what we did in London on the balcony,” the composer said. “We can’t do that in New York. I mean, something awful could happen. We have gun laws in Britain.”
