Matt Damon Is Open To Reviving The ‘Bourne’ Franchise: “W...

Matt Damon may be suiting up with a Linothorax for Christopher Nolan’s hotly anticipated The Odyssey, but that doesn’t mean his run as a CIA agent suffering from dissociative amnesia has necessarily come to a close.

In a recent interview with Parade magazine, the Oscar-winning multi-hyphenate said he is open to another entry in the Bourne film franchise — and is taking pitches for it.

“We’re always looking to try to get another one of those because we loved it, everyone who worked on them,” Damon told the publication. “So there’s always some attempt going on to write, to come up with a new story. So if you have anything, let us know.”

The action-thriller series based on author Robert Ludlum’s novels includes five installments and a spinoff TV series, 2019’s short-lived Treadstone on USA Network. The franchise kicked off with 2002’s The Bourne Identity, helmed by Doug Liman and written by Tony Gilroy and William Blake Herron, about a man who awakens at sea — bullet-riddled, addled and unaware of his life prior — and discovers he is a CIA assassin being hunted by his peers for failing to complete his most recent mission.

Watch on Deadline

The inaugural film was followed by The Bourne Supremacy (2004), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), The Bourne Legacy (2012) and Jason Bourne (2016). Damon did not reprise his role in the fourth entry, which introduced a new character portrayed by Jeremy Renner.

The critically acclaimed and commercially successful films have collectively grossed more than $1.64 billion at the global box office.

In the latest update on future sequels and installments behind the scenes, NBCUniversal in 2025 acquired all rights, excluding publishing, to Ludlum’s revered Jason Bourne and Treadstone book series, in perpetuity, following an extensive auction.

With the agreement, longtime Universal collaborator and storied producer Frank Marshall will continue to shepherd forthcoming installments, as he has from the beginning, along with Captivate’s Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith. Captivate has managed the rights for the Ludlum estate since 2001.

Outside of The Odyssey, which bows in theaters July 17, Deadline exclusively reported that Damon is in talks to star in the untitled event film from Everything Everywhere All At Once duo Daniels, aka Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, also for Universal Pictures.
