Crunchyroll To Expand In Taiwan & South Korea Through Loc...

Crunchyroll is planning to expand its presence in Taiwan and South Korea through investment in content, localization, marketing and community.

The news emerged during Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini’s fireside chat at the APOS conference today. While outlining the platform’s growth across the APAC region, Purini said localization would start in Taiwan this summer followed by Korea later in the year.

Describing Taiwan and Korea as “high-affinity markets”, Purini explained how localization would deepen the “anime ecosystem” in both territories; an ecosystem that for Crunchyroll encompasses multi-generational fandom, mobile-first access and community engagement spanning streaming, social media, theatrical releases and conventions. Some of Crunchyroll’s anime properties, including Solo Leveling, are based on Korean webtoons and other IP.

Crunchyroll has already launched a localization strategy in India and Thailand, resulting in an increase in viewership and watch time in the two markets. In India, where the platform now offers more than 900 titles including dubs across Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, total watch time has increased 3.5x; minutes watched per viewer have doubled; and fans average more than 60 minutes a day on the platform.

Watch on Deadline

In Thailand, where Crunchyroll launched a fully localized service in February 2026, including a Thai-language interface, subtitles and dubs, viewership has seen 4x growth. Crunchyroll also noted the recent performance of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle – the highest-grossing Japanese film and top animated film of all time in Thailand – as a measure of the market’s depth of engagement.

“Asia is a priority for Crunchyroll because it’s home to some of the world’s most passionate anime communities,” Purini said. “Our ambition is simple: to be the best place for fans to experience anime, wherever they are. That means investing in great content, delivering it in ways that feel local and relevant, and creating experiences that deepen fans’ connection to the stories and characters they love.

“In Taiwan and South Korea, we see tremendous opportunity to better serve fans and grow alongside these vibrant communities. We’re committed to bringing the right mix of content, accessibility, and local experiences to each market. Our focus is on earning fans’ trust every day by consistently delivering the experience they expect from Crunchyroll.”

Purini also said Crunchyroll will be announcing its new season of content soon, with approximately 40 new simulcast anime titles arriving from Japan.

APOS is taking place at the Mulia Resort in Bali, Indonesia, from June 16-18.
