EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is in early development on the scripted sports series Glory Days from Josh Safran (Gossip Girl, Quantico) and Skydance Sports. Safran will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer of the project should it go to series. Nancy Cotton will also EP.

In Glory Days, every summer, the top college baseball players are recruited to Cape Cod to try out for talent scouts from around the world for a shot at the majors. The series follows the coaches, players, and local townspeople as their futures, families, secrets, and sex lives collide during the summer of their lives. Glory Days is described as The OC meets Bull Durham.

Netflix declined to comment for this story.

In addition to Glory Days, Safran is currently shooting the pilot for the U.S. Marshall drama Protection for NBC. Protection stars Peter Krause in the lead role of Mike Thornhill, alongside Hope Davis, Tommy O’Brien, Kat Cunning, and Taylor Bloom.

When a U.S. Marshal falls in the line of duty, a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy as a family of law enforcement agents becomes the target of a mysterious assassin in Protection. Bridging personal differences and crossing professional boundaries, the Thornhill family must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice — even if it means betraying their sworn code.

Safran was creator, executive producer, and showrunner of ABC’s Quantico, Netflix’s Soundtrack, and HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot, and served as executive producer and showrunner on NBC’s Smash. He was also a writer-producer on the original Gossip Girl series.
