EXCLUSIVE: Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies) is set to lead Mother’s Helper, an erotic thriller written and to be directed for MRC by Bridget Moloney.

Milo Callaghan (The Rainmaker) and Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) will also star.

Mother’s Helper centers on a woman (Woodley) struggling to balance work, kids, and marriage who hires a handsome young man to help out at home.

Marking Moloney’s feature directorial debut, the project reflects MRC’s long-standing history of supporting first-time filmmakers, from Chloe Domont (Fair Play) and Jake Johnson (Self Reliance) to Academy Award winner Cord Jefferson (American Fiction).

MRC is the studio financing the film with Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett producing and Rachel Rubin co-producing for Ryder Picture Company, whose upcoming slate includes I Love Boosters (Neon), Office Romance (Netflix), and The Death of Robin Hood and Onslaught with A24.

An Emmy and Golden Globe nominee best known for roles in Big Little Lies and the Divergent films, Woodley’s recent credits include Killer Heat, Three Women, Dumb Money and Ferrari. Upcoming, she’ll be seen starring in Hulu’s limited series Count My Lies, opposite Lindsay Lohan, as well as Netflix’s Unabomber, from MRC and 2.0 Entertainment. She is repped by CAA and Range Media Partners.

Callaghan stars alongside John Slattery in USA’s The Rainmaker, with additional credits including Rivals, Dune: Prophecy, and Video Nasty. He is repped by Hamilton Hodell, WME, and Granderson Des Rochers.

An Emmy winner best known for his collaboration with Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino on a pair of Prime Video series — The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and the more recent Étoile — Kirby is also known for roles in titles like The Last Thing He Told Me, Dr. Death, and No Man of God. He is repped by Gersh.

Coming off the release of Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, MRC’s upcoming slate includes The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, The Gallerist, A Place in Hell, The Best is Yet To Come, Unabomber, and Eloise.
