SkyShowtime & Polsat Team Up For Polish Remake Of ‘High P...

EXCLUSIVE: High Potential is getting a Polish remake. It will be called Genialna M. and is for local player Polsat and Comcast and Paramount owned streamer SkyShowtime. Like the series High Potential on U.S. net ABC, the Polish show is based upon the French cozy crime smash hit H.P.I. – Haut Potentiel Intellectuel.

The Polish take on the crime comedy stars Agnieszka Dygant in the lead role. She plays Marta, who works as a cleaner at a police station. One night, she begins tidying up the evidence in a complicated case that has reached a dead end. She discovers a clue that brings the cops significantly closer to catching the perpetrator. It emerges that Marta has an incredibly high IQ and the brilliant cleaner begins helping the police solve criminal cases.

“This is a series that has it all – a distinctive, complex protagonist, a brilliantly crafted story, and a compelling blend of comedy and crime,” said Edward Miszczak, Program Director at Telewizja Polsat. “The cast is also a huge asset – for now, we’re only revealing the lead actress; Agnieszka Dygant guarantees quality and top-notch acting that draws viewers to their TV screens.”

“We are really excited to partner with Edward Miszczak and his team at Telewizja Polsat to produce the Polish version of this hit format, which I have personally loved for years,” added Kai Finke, Chief Content Officer at SkyShowtime. “Genialna M. combines two genres that our members love – comedy and crime – making it a great fit within our expanding slate of original series.”

The show marks the first collaboration between SkyShowtime and Telewizja Polsat. Jake Vision DGA Studio is producing. It will be directed by Olga Chajdas form a screenplay by Błażej Dzikowski and Agata Malesińska.

It is the latest Polish original for European streamer SkyShowtime after the likes of Śleboda and The Cop. A New Chapter. It joins a roster of upcoming shows that includes gangster series Morpheus and crime drama Deadly Ties S2.

“Poland remains an extremely important market for SkyShowtime, which is why we continue to invest in creatively excellent projects, working with trusted partners and great talent such as Olga Chajdas and Agnieszka Dygant on Genialna M. to tell authentic stories that really resonate with our audience,” said Finke.

HPI meanwhile is a big international hit. The original French series H.P.I. – Haut Potentiel Intellectuel was created by Nicolas Jean, Stéphane Carrié and Alice Chegaray-Breugnot and produced by Septembre Prods and Itineraire Prods. It has spawned local remakes, most notably the ABC version for the U.S., which has been renewed for a third season, and is the most high-profile French TV export of recent years. Studio TF1 distributes it globally.
